The loss of a legend on the eve of Sunday's Grammys has brought a message of condolence from the Recording Academy.
"Six-time Grammy winner Whitney Houston was one of the world's greatest pop singers of all time who leaves behind a robust musical soundtrack spanning the past three decades," Neil Portnow, president and CEO of The Recording Academy, which presents the annual Grammy Awards, said in a statement Saturday.
"Her powerful voice graced many memorable and award-winning songs."

Saturday's shocking death of Whitney Houston has left many people devastated, but Mariah Carey is especially affected by loss of her close friend and peer.
Carey, who collaborated with Houston, 48, on "When You Believe" – a song from the Prince of Egypt soundtrack – is "heartbroken and in tears" over Houston's passing, she wrote on Twitter Saturday.
Calling the former Bodyguard star "incomparable," Carey Tweeted her "heartfelt condolences to Whitney's family and all her millions of fans around the world."

Nick Cannon says he learned the hard way that he can't run his body ragged, and he's grateful for a new lease on life following his health scare this month.
"Alright, so, I'm back. I'm not dead!" Cannon, 31, tells fans with a laugh in a video posted to his website on Wednesday – before offering well-wishers his heartfelt thanks for their support in recent weeks.
"I appreciate all the love, all the concern, all the letters and emails and texts, people sending me flowers and stuff," he says.

Just over a week after being hospitalized for "mild kidney failure,? Nick Cannon stepped out for the first time with wife Mariah Carey – and praised her for being his "hero" during the ordeal.
"When times are hard, you guys don't see her at 3 o'clock in the morning, getting up in the middle of the night, fixing me soup when my kidneys ain't acting right. Mariah Carey does that,? Cannon, 31, said onstage before presenting his wife with the Entertainer Award at the 2012 BET Honors taping, held Saturday in Washington, D.C. The show will air Feb. 13 at 9 p.m.
Holding 8-month-old son Moroccan – dressed in a matching mini tux – Cannon gushed over Carey and at times appeared emotional as he reflected on the woman he calls "my angel."

Nick Cannon Released from Hospital

Nick Cannon is well on the road to recovery, having been released from hospital after suffering "mild kidney failure" last week.
"Nick Cannon was released over the weekend to be with his family. He is resting and recovering at home and would like to thank everyone who has expressed concern, well wishes and prayers," his rep tells PEOPLE.
"He plans to return to his live morning radio show broadcast Rollin' with Nick Cannon on 92.3 NOW FM on January 17th."

Mariah Carey is at husband Nick Cannon's bedside again – but this time she has better news.
"Nick is in stable condition with a good prognosis, hopefully he'll be discharged within 2 days," the singer Tweeted Friday, adding, "As always he's laughing and in good spirits."
Just as she did on Wednesday, when Cannon was hospitalized with what she termed "mild kidney failure", Carey also posted a photo of her cuddling up to Cannon in his hospital bed.

Nick Cannon's health scare has stunned his friends, family and fans alike.
"I was beyond shocked when I learned Nick had a kidney issue," DJ Irie, a close friend of Cannon, tells PEOPLE.
"Of all the people, he is healthy beyond belief. He does not drink, he eats healthy, and he works out regularly."
The America's Got Talent host, 31, was hospitalized with what wife Mariah Carey called "mild kidney failure" on Wednesday.
"Nick practices all of these healthy habits every day of his life," the Miami-based DJ added. "But he is rational and smart and taking care of it by being in the hospital where he belongs now."

Even a hospital stay for mild kidney failure isn't bringing down characteristically cheery Nick Cannon.
"As always, he's in good spirits considering the situation," his wife Mariah Carey, who accompanied him to the hospital in Aspen, tells PEOPLE exclusively.
Acknowledging, "the situation is not easy," Carey says Cannon is stable but "in a lot of pain."
"We are hopeful that he'll be 100 percent as soon as possible," she adds. "We really appreciate everybody's love and support."

As Nick Cannon continues to recover from what his wife Mariah Carey calls "mild kidney failure," the future of the America's Got Talent host's health is in question.
Dr. Bryan Becker, the past immediate president of the National Kidney Foundation, took some time to chat with PEOPLE about Cannon's condition, and what may be ahead in terms of his health.
What is mild kidney failure?
Normally when this happens, medically, we call it acute kidney injury. When Nick was being evaluated, someone probably did a serum creatinine test and his serum creatinine was elevated and there was some decrease in kidney function.

Nick Cannon has been hospitalized in Aspen, Colo., with what his wife Mariah Carey is calling "mild kidney failure."
"Please pray for Nick as he's fighting to recover from a mild kidney failure. #mybraveman," the singer wrote on Twitter Wednesday, alongside a photo of her helping Cannon take a drink in his hospital bed.
Carey later elaborated in a post on her website: "Last year it was me attached to the machines (after having dembabies) and Nick was there with me through it, and now here we are."
