On Wednesday's episode of The X Factor, judge Simon Cowell predicted that contestant Carlito Olivero would "go home" this week following his lackluster performance of "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You."
But on Thursday night, an annoyed Cowell rolled his eyes when it was revealed that not only was Olivero, 24, staying put this week, but that he was the first contestant to make it through to the top 10.
Adding insult to injury, the girl group Sweet Suspense – whose performance of the Tony Basil song "Mickey" left Cowell raving that they were "the best of the night" on Wednesday – was sent home in a shocking elimination that host Mario Lopez repeatedly described as "an unpopular decision."

There was a time not so long ago when it was Britney Spears, not Miley Cyrus, who was causing controversy at the MTV Video Music Awards.
While Cyrus's twerking performance has made Spears's 2003 lip lock with Madonna look tame in comparison, the 31-year-old tells Extra's Mario Lopez that she can relate to all of the media attention the "Wrecking Ball" singer, 20, has received since she did unspeakable things with a foam finger.

Britney Spears may have left The X Factor judging panel, but Wednesday's season 3 premiere was still a girls' night.
Simon Cowell was joined by three talented female judges – Demi Lovato and newcomers Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio – and female contestants also ruled the the stage on opening night.
Lillie McCloud, a 54-year-old Florida mother of three and grandmother of seven, took the stage in a leather bodysuit, looking half her age and a little like Halle Berry in Catwoman. She belted out "Alabaster Box" by CeCe Winans, bringing Rowland to tears and prompting Lovato to say, "I feel like I'm listening to Whitney!"

Khloé Kardashian is left out following the latest game of musical chairs on The X Factor.
Fox said Monday that while Mario Lopez is returning this fall as host of Simon Cowell's music competition series, Kardashian will not be joining him.
Cowell's series, which has never quite met ratings expectations, is in the midst of turnover with its judging panel, too.
Cowell and Demi Lovato will be returning, but Britney Spears and record producer Antonio "L.A." Reid left and have not been replaced yet.
