One of Boston's most famous sons, Mark Wahlberg, said Monday that he was deeply upset by the bombings at the city's marathon, and that something must be done to stem the violence that's increasingly putting innocent lives at risk.
"It's just so upsetting," the Oscar nominee, 41, told PEOPLE at a screening of his new film, Pain & Gain, at the Crosby Street Hotel in New York, hosted by The Cinema Society and Men's Fitness.
"Obviously I've got a huge family and so many family and friends back in Boston. I don't know what exactly happened, and I don't know if everyone's okay. I'm just trying to be here [at the screening] and put on a brave face and just be a professional."

Mark Wahlberg Braces for Rebel Wilson's Barbs at MTV Movie Awards
Originally posted 04/14/2013 10:30AM
By the time host Rebel Wilson is done with everybody Mark Wahlberg expects to laugh, be surprised – and maybe be a little hurt – at this weekend's MTV Movie Awards.
"I think she may insult some people, but she is very, very funny," Wahlberg, 41, tells PEOPLE at Thursday night's Miami premiere of his movie Pain & Gain, presented by Grey Goose.
The actor certainly seems poised for a Wilson barb. He's nominated for best duo for being paired with a computer-animated bear voiced (profanely) by Seth MacFarlane in Ted. Wahlberg's up against a pal, Will Ferrell, nominated with Zach Galifianakis for The Campaign.

Ted Is Funny (Enough)
Originally posted 06/29/2012 04:00PM
John (Mark Wahlberg) is like any guy caught between his girlfriend and his best friend.
Only John's love is the far-too-good-for-him Lori (Mila Kunis, delightful as usual), and his buddy is Ted (Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane), a magical bear John wished into being when he was a kid, who now has a penchant for hookers and pot.
The bear is profane and hilarious, getting John to blow off work to smoke doobies and watch Flash Gordon many more times than can possibly be healthy. But the movie misses with a kidnapping plot that first-time film director MacFarlane clumsily telegraphs far too early.

Mark Wahlberg Will Earn His High School Diploma Online
Originally posted 06/14/2012 02:00PM
Mark Wahlberg is an award-winning actor and producer, and he's about to add a new title to his resume – high school graduate.
Wahlberg, 41, never finished high school when he was growing up in Boston because various run-ins with the law as a teenager landed him in jail rather than in a classroom.
"I quit kind of during the ninth grade," Wahlberg told David Letterman on The Late Show Monday. "They're going to give me whatever credits I already have, which is probably like one or two."

Jennifer Aniston Gets Dirty at the MTV Movie Awards
Originally posted 06/03/2012 10:00PM
America's sweetheart is a dirt bag – at least according to MTV.
Scooping up the first award of the night Sunday at the network's annual Movie Awards, Jennifer Aniston was crowned best on-screen dirtbag for her role as over-sexed (but still sexy) dentist Dr. Julia Harris, beating out costar Colin Farrell, Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help), Jon Hamm (Bridesmaids) and Oliver Cooper (Project X).
Introduced by Mila Kunis and Mark Wahlberg, who made references to some not-so-dirty do-gooders in their introduction, including Mother Teresa, the actress was more than happy to accept the honor.

Mark Wahlberg in His Underwear – Getting Spray Tanned: See Photos
Originally posted 05/30/2012 11:25AM
Why, hello Mark!
Wahlberg may already be super-buff for his new movie Pain and Gain, in which he plays a bodybuilder – but now the actor is getting bronzed, too. On Tuesday, the actor was snapped in his skivvies getting spray-tanned on the balcony on his Miami hotel.
Wahlberg, 40, has been showing skin and flaunting his toned biceps in tanktops while filming the action comedy (which costars Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson) in South Florida recently.
He's also had on-set visitors, including wife Rhea, who dropped by in April to plant a smooch on her hubby and enjoy a little ice cream.
While in Miami, the actor has also enjoyed some quiet time on the town when he's not filming. Recently, Wahlberg ate dinner with a pal at the Delano Hotel and "seemed very relaxed" at the time, according to an onlooker.
