Someone wasn't adequately prepared for her interview Wednesday morning.
In what was clearly a gaffe, Today show host Kathie Lee Gifford, appearing live on the air, asked actor – and widower, since 2010 – Martin Short the secret to his great marriage to wife Nancy, including how they still make each other laugh.
"How many years are you in love with her now?" inquired Gifford.
Short, already looking stricken, quietly replied, "Thirty-six."

A picture-perfect moment, right?
Well, looks like the joke is on Gwyneth, who posted a photo of her meeting comedians Steve Martin and Martin Short at the Vanity Fair party following last Sunday's Academy Awards.
"Dude. Seriously. I love my life," the actress, sporting her glamorous Tom Ford dress, wrote along with the photo, which she published on her WhoSay account that night.
Martin, too, shared similar pictorial evidence of his meeting with Paltrow, posting a slightly different version of the shot on his official Twitter page (see photo below) the same night.

Saddened by the absence of nominee Martin Short from Sunday's Emmy Awards, friends spoke of the actor's talent, love and "extraordinary" 30-year marriage to Nancy Dolman, who died last week.
"Marty is an amazing actor, and that's the least of his talents," Catherine O'Hara, an old friend and comedy colleague of Short's, told ET Canada. "He's such a beautiful, beautiful person. I love him so much, and I love his family, and I'm sorry he can't be here tonight."
She added: "I think you all know how funny he is. He's just such a wise old soul, and in any situation in life, he's the model of how to be. Even now."

Martin Short, a nominee for his work on FX's Damages, will skip the Emmy Awards this Sunday as he grieves the death of his wife of 30 years, Nancy Dolman.
Short, 60, has been receiving condolences from those close to him, and was spotted this week accepting an arrangement of white flowers and walking with actress and comedian Catherine O'Hara, a fellow Canadian and SCTV alum.
Dolman, 58, died Saturday after a 911 call was made from Short's L.A. home. A coroner official has said she died of natural causes.

Martin Short's wife died relatively young – at only 58 – but her death was from natural causes, a coroner official confirms.
"[Nancy Dolman] was under the care of a private physician for a natural disease," L.A. County Coroner Chief Craig Harvey tells PEOPLE. "There will be no coroner involvement."
Dolman had been battling cancer, according to a 2007 tabloid report, but a publicist for the actor declined to comment on the cause of death.

Nancy Dolman, the wife of Father of the Bride star Martin Short, has died, a representative of the actor-comedian's said Monday. Dolman, a former actress, was 58.
"Sadly, we can confirm that Martin Short's wife did pass away," said Camille Kuznetz, adding no further details about time, location or cause, CNN reports. "We do not have any other comment to make."
Saturday morning, Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to an emergency call for medical help at the couple's Pacific Palisades home, though no one was transported from the residence, said LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey.

In case you missed it, Martin Short appeared on David Letterman's Late Show this week, and the TV host presented Short with a recent PEOPLE.com photo of the comic and Steve Martin, both in their bathing suits, splashing about in the waters of the Caribbean. (Their "bromance" followed that of Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson.)
"What are you inferring?" asked Short. "I don't want to embarrass you," Letterman replied, and Short clarified: "We're good friends. We vacation together. We've been known to bathe together."

Another "Bromance" blooms, with longtime pals Steve Martin and Martin Short (right) enjoying their Baywatch moment together on St. Bart's in the Caribbean, splashing around just like buddies Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson (left) were also doing this month in Hawaii. Back in 1983, Martin and Short starred together (with Chevy Chase) in Three Amigos. So, where's the third?
