No disrespect to Ben Affleck – but the 2014 Golden Globes were all about Matt Damon.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, start warming up!
Thursday morning brought the Golden Globe nominations from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, in anticipation of when the two women will host the freewheeling ceremony come next month.
As expected, there were major showings for the movies 12 Years a Slave, which led Wednesday's Screen Actors Guild nominations, and American Hustle, already winner of the New York Film Critics Circle Award for best film.
Those two films received seven nominations each, including those for 12 Years's Chiwetel Ejiofor and Hustle's supporting actors Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper.
Completely shut out, to the surprise of many, were SAG nominees Oprah Winfrey and Forest Whitaker – in fact, everything and everybody with anything to do with Lee Daniels' The Butler.
The 71st annual Golden Globes will air live on NBC on Sunday, Jan. 12. For a complete list of nominations, click here.

How does Matt Damon cope with being the lone male voice in a household that consists of his wife and four daughters?
A man cave, of course.
Actually, more like a man corner, as Damon describes it.
"I barely manage," Damon told PEOPLE before being honored at this past weekend's 23rd Annual Environmental Media Awards in Burbank. "I do have a little 'man area' that I can go to that is kind of mine that they don't know about."

After an end-of-summer smash as an astronaut in Gravity, George Clooney will be back onscreen for the holidays, this time in dashing military uniform, saving the world from the Nazis and priceless art from Hitler's grasp.
He gets some help in this feel-good war drama from Bill Murray, John Goodman and Matt Damon. But it's Cate Blanchett, looking pristine in World War II period garb, who appears to steal the show – at least as far as things look in the newly released trailer for The Monuments Men, set to open Dec. 18.
"How can I help you steal our stolen art?" ponders a gamine and decidedly French-acting Blanchett in the film, co-written and directed by Clooney.

Talk about making a splash.
On Saturday, Matt Damon, wife Luciana and a large group of family members (26 in all) lounged poolside at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach.
The group enjoyed a leisurely lunch at La Cote, the hotel's ocean view Mediterranean restaurant, where they ate, drank and played with the children. On the menu? Chicken Caesar salad, lobster thermidor, grilled vegetable platters, seared haloumi, lentil salads, fried calamari, conch ceviche and a variety of kids' food (including special milkshakes). Pitchers of Margaritas and pina coladas flowed freely as well.

Awards season is nigh! And that means live primetime performances by our most celebrated entertainers.
Cue Elton John, who will work his magic at the Emmy awards for the first time ever with a tribute to Liberace. The HBO biopic Behind the Candelabra about Liberace's life is nominated for 15 Emmys.
Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, who are both nominated for outstanding lead actor in a miniseries or movie for their portrayal of Liberace and his lover Scott Thorson, will also be presenting at the ceremony.

At least someone has Ben Affleck's back.
Fanboys and girls melted down over the news that Affleck was set to play Batman in the next movie installment, but his pal Matt Damon thinks the 41-year-old will "be great."
"It will be terrific," Damon tells the Times of India. "I know there are a lot of people grousing on the Internet. I just think it's kind of funny. You know he's not playing King Lear – it's Batman! Certainly within his skill set."

Guess what just popped up in my inbox? A change.org petition to drop Ben Affleck as the next Batman. Really, folks? Everyone adored this double Oscar winner just a few months ago. Now it's, "Argo blank yourself, Ben?" Let's just calm down and be little Fonzies about this. After all, this isn't the first time we've collectively freaked out over Batman.
