Michael Phelps and his girlfriend Megan Rossee have apparently broken up.

The Olympic swimming sensation, who has a record 22 medals and retired after the Summer 2012 Olympic Games, ended his relationship with Rossee, a model, because it wasn't going anywhere and he wanted to pursue other options, according to TMZ.com.

The couple had dated less than a year and charted their relationship on Twitter. While they have not publicly confirmed their split, recent Tweets suggest they're no longer a couple.

When it comes to exchanging sweet nothings, Michael Phelps and Megan Rossee take a short-but-sweet approach – 140 characters or less, to be exact.

Glimpses into their rumored relationship have been sprinkled throughout their Twitter postings in the months leading up to the 2012 Summer Olympics, where they took an even more public approach to their romance: Ditching his pool attire for an Olympic celebration, Phelps suited up for the red carpet with a glammed-up Rossee on his side.

But Phelps, 27, and the aspiring model, 25, who reportedly began dating in January, have already had their P.D.A moments on the social media site – namely when celebrating a certain special holiday.

It's safe to say they both would look just fine in their Speedo swimwear.

Taking their romance from the dating pool to the red carpet, Michael Phelps stepped out with rumored girlfriend (and aspiring model) Megan Rossee Monday night for the Speedo Athlete Celebration in London, where he put the final touches on his 22-medal career at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The couple, who began quietly dating in January, according to reports, were all smiles as they posed together at the Kensington Roof Gardens.

Is Michael Phelps diving into the dating pool?

After collecting a record 22 Olympic medals, the swimming phenom was spotted in London with a beautiful blonde, identified by several media sites as aspiring model Megan Rossee, 25, from Los Angeles.

Rossee, who posted an Instagram photo of them together Sunday evening with the caption "Yay Michael," has been quietly seeing Phelps, 27, since January, Hollyscoop reports, accompanying him to the Olympic Trials as well as the Games.
