They may play brother and sister in their day jobs, but by night, Dexter actor Michael C. Hall and new wife and costar Jennifer Carpenter are finally acting out some non-sibling PDAs.

The couple, who eloped on New Year's Eve, enjoyed an intimate dinner at Hollywood's Pace restaurant with two friends Wednesday night.

"They were very intimate, but never over-the-top-affectionate," one observer says of the quiet dinner. "He had his arm around her at all times and you could see the light golden band on her wedding finger even in the candlelight."

Don't worry folks, it's legal. They may play brother and sister on Dexter, but in real life Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter were lawfully wed on New Year's Eve, according to Hall's rep, Craig Bankey. The outdoor ceremony was held in Big Sur.

Michael C. Hall plays the nicest crime-solving serial killer you ever met on the hit show Dexter, while Jennifer Carpenter costars as his detective sister with a Daddy complex. But the on-set siblings share an even closer bond when the cameras are off: The pair are dating, sources tell PEOPLE.

"I don't see what the big deal is," says a source close to the couple. "They play brother and sister on the show, but they are actors, after all."

Hall and Carpenter were spotted dining at the Sunset Tower Hotel last week following the news that Dexter had nabbed a prestigious Peabody award. "It was romantic," says an observer of their back-of-the-restaurant dinner. "They were drinking champagne and there was the clinking of glasses. They were clearly celebrating."
