A former lover of Liberace, who was the subject of the HBO film Behind the Candelabra, has been sentenced to eight to 20 years in a Nevada prison for failing another court-ordered drug test while on probation for burglary and identity theft convictions.
Washoe District Judge Patrick Flanagan sentenced Scott Thorson on Wednesday after a string of bad drug tests capped his failure to show up at a court-ordered treatment facility.
Flanagan originally suspended the prison sentence in July and gave Thorson a second chance in September after testing positive for methamphetamine, but he failed tests twice in October and again on Nov. 1. He was arrested Nov. 19 after violating an order to enter an inpatient treatment facility in Reno two weeks earlier, court records show.
Thorson, 54, whose real name is Jess Marlow, had admitted he was an addict but insisted he was determined to get sober when he tearfully appealed to the judge in September to spare him from prison.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, start warming up!
Thursday morning brought the Golden Globe nominations from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, in anticipation of when the two women will host the freewheeling ceremony come next month.
As expected, there were major showings for the movies 12 Years a Slave, which led Wednesday's Screen Actors Guild nominations, and American Hustle, already winner of the New York Film Critics Circle Award for best film.
Those two films received seven nominations each, including those for 12 Years's Chiwetel Ejiofor and Hustle's supporting actors Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper.
Completely shut out, to the surprise of many, were SAG nominees Oprah Winfrey and Forest Whitaker – in fact, everything and everybody with anything to do with Lee Daniels' The Butler.
The 71st annual Golden Globes will air live on NBC on Sunday, Jan. 12. For a complete list of nominations, click here.

Michael Douglas sounds optimistic when it comes to him and estranged wife Catherine Zeta-Jones.
"Things are great," Douglas, now starring in Last Vegas, told reporters when asked about his nearly 13-year marriage. "Onward and upward."
Douglas, 69, was sans Zeta-Jones, 44, in Las Vegas at a promotional event for his new movie but donned his wedding ring and seemed in fine spirits.
Zeta-Jones was also spotted wearing her wedding ring in New York City last week, though the couple, who decided to "take a break" from their marriage earlier this year, haven't stepped out publicly together since last spring.

The world was shocked when Michael Douglas announced he had stage four throat cancer in August 2010, but the Oscar winner now reveals that he wasn't telling the whole truth.
In an interview with Samuel L. Jackson on the U.K. talk show This Morning the actor, 69, admitted Thursday that he'd actually successfully battled tongue – not throat – cancer.
"This was right before I had a big tour for Wall Street, so we said, 'There's no way we can cancel the tour and say we don't feel well,'" Douglas admitted. "I said, 'You've just got to come out and just tell them I've got cancer and that's it.'"

While there's still hope for the marriage of Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, the couple are still "taking a break," a source close to them tells PEOPLE.
"They're not back together," says the source. "People are getting ahead of themselves."
After winning an Emmy for his role in Behind the Candelabra, Douglas, 69, returned to New Mexico where he is filming The Reach, while Zeta-Jones, 44, has been home in Bedford, N.Y. with their kids, Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10.
