He had a meeting to get to and a new movie, And So It Goes, with his pal Diane Keaton (out July 18), to promote, but on a recent afternoon in L.A., an upbeat Michael Douglas had something else on his mind: throwing a 60th-anniversary party that night for his dad, Hollywood icon Kirk Douglas, 97, and stepmom, Anne, 95.
The two-time Oscar winner, 69, was clearly focused on family, from his 13-year-old son Dylan's bar mitzvah to strengthening his marriage to Catherine Zeta-Jones, 44. (The couple, who decided to spend time apart a year ago, have stepped out hand in hand several times in recent months.)

Barbara Walters said goodbye to The View, the woman-powered talk show she created for ABC in 1997, Friday morning.
"I may be available for supermarket openings and charity auctions," she joked at the hour's close before going on to mention her interviews of the powerful and famous on her specials and then on to her many years as the unmistakeable head of the table on The View, on which she'll remain executive producer.
This had been billed, somewhat delicately, as Walters's farewell to daytime television, but her summing up sounded very much like a pronounced "I'm outta here!"

A former lover of Liberace, who was the subject of the HBO film Behind the Candelabra, has been sentenced to eight to 20 years in a Nevada prison for failing another court-ordered drug test while on probation for burglary and identity theft convictions.
Washoe District Judge Patrick Flanagan sentenced Scott Thorson on Wednesday after a string of bad drug tests capped his failure to show up at a court-ordered treatment facility.
Flanagan originally suspended the prison sentence in July and gave Thorson a second chance in September after testing positive for methamphetamine, but he failed tests twice in October and again on Nov. 1. He was arrested Nov. 19 after violating an order to enter an inpatient treatment facility in Reno two weeks earlier, court records show.
Thorson, 54, whose real name is Jess Marlow, had admitted he was an addict but insisted he was determined to get sober when he tearfully appealed to the judge in September to spare him from prison.
