Awards-show presenters: Learn the pronunciation now, because you'll likely be calling out Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong'o's name for the next several months.
The newcomer, 30, is garnering rave reviews and Oscar buzz for her gut-wrenching big-screen debut in the Brad Pitt-produced drama 12 Years a Slave, and she'll receive the new Hollywood award at the Hollywood Film Awards on Monday.
In the film, which arrives in theaters on Friday, she plays an abused plantation slave named Patsey opposite Michael Fassbender and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Scoring your first movie role is exciting. Scoring that role in a movie starring and produced by Brad Pitt is beyond exciting. Just ask Lupita Nyong'o, who has a memorable role in his new film, 12 Years a Slave.
The 30-year-old, who was raised in Kenya, plays a slave named Patsey in the pre-Civil War film, which is getting lots of Oscar buzz.

Now that his acting career has skyrocketed, Michael Fassbender is finding it much easier to talk to women.
"You become a lot more successful in terms of, like, talking to a girl," Fassbender tells GQ in its November issue. "She's all of a sudden more interested in me. I know that, like, three years ago, she would've walked away after two sentences left my mouth."
He adds: "I remember I was sitting at this table at this thing, and I was talking to this girl. I was like, 'God, I am so boring right now.' But she was like, 'That's so interesting!' I was like, 'You know what? Five years ago, this would not have been interesting.' "

For Michael Fassbender, meeting and working with Brad Pitt on 2009's Inglourious Basterds was a life-changing experience.
"Brad is a wonderful human being who has a generous soul," Fassbender, 36, told PEOPLE at Wednesday's Cinema Society and Emporio Armani screening of his new film The Counselor in New York. "I have a lot of reasons to thank him. He has always been a real champion for me."

It's not even three months since she gave birth to her daughter, Luna, so Penélope Cruz knows all about the difficult balancing act that working moms struggle with.
“I’ve always been a very family person, since I was a little girl, that’s the way I was raised,” Cruz, 36, said during Saturday's London press conference for her new movie The Counselor. “So that will always be a priority. But I have to work, like everyone else, so I will find a way to balance.”
