There's no bad blood between Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen. The exes simply "have different visions for the future," a source tells PEOPLE about the pair, whose split was confirmed on Wednesday after two years of dating.
"Rachel wants to settle down and is dreaming of having a family. Michael always seemed content with their relationship. Since he already has a daughter [Lily, 14, with Kate Beckinsale], he feels no need to have more children. He wants to focus on his career."
"They still have some contact and are friendly," the source adds, but it was their differences that eventually led to the demise of their relationship.

Rachel McAdams's last boyfriend was a little older than her. Now it looks like she's keeping company with someone from the Cretaceous Period.
The actress, 34, who recently split with her beau of two years, actor Michael Sheen, was courted by the Toronto Raptors's velociraptor mascot on Monday night.
He presented the Midnight in Paris actress with flowers and a stuffed dinosaur as the Toronto public-address announcer introduced the London, Ontario, native to the crowd, who cheered wildly.

Things are over for Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen.
The couple, who first met when they costarred in Woody Allen's 2010 romantic comedy Midnight in Paris, recently ended their two-year relationship, PEOPLE confirms.
The pair acknowledged their budding romance in 2011, after appearing arm-in-arm at that year's Cannes Film Festival and being spotted together throughout the fall of 2010.

"Literally a fake penis. I didn't know what to do – I thought, 'Is that the real deal?' It was very realistic. It was ridiculous, the scale of it!"

Michael Sheen and Rachel McAdams have finally confirmed one of the worst-kept secrets in Hollywood – that they are indeed a couple.
"Yeah, we are together," the actor told PEOPLE Tuesday at the Cinema Society & Thierry Mugler screening of their new movie Midnight in Paris in New York.
Linked since the fall, Sheen, 42, and McAdams, 32, hit the red carpet arm in arm in Cannes last week to promote the Woody Allen film.
"I don't think it was planned one way or the other," McAdams said Tuesday of their going public with the romance.
