Mindy McCready: Under Police Scrutiny at Time of Suicide?

When Mindy McCready talked to police in recent weeks, her account of how her boyfriend came to be found with a fatal gunshot wound to the head concerned police, a law enforcement source tells PEOPLE.
"At first, she said she hadn't heard the gunshot because the TV was too loud. Then she said she had heard the gunshot," the source says. "So obviously there were a lot of questions, and the Sheriff was asking for clarification."
But before investigators could re-interview her, the long-troubled country singer also would die under eerily similar circumstances, her body discovered at the same Heber Springs, Ark., house just feet away from where David Wilson died.

Mindy McCready's tragic suicide on Sunday makes the country singer the fifth person who has starred in Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew to die in the past two years.
"I am deeply saddened by this awful news. My heart goes out to Mindy's family and children. She is a lovely woman who will be missed by many," Dr. Drew Pinsky told PEOPLE in a statement. "Although I have not treated her for a few years, I had reached out to her recently upon hearing about the apparent suicide of her boyfriend and father of her younger children. She was devastated."
He continued: "Although she was fearful of stigma and ridicule she agreed with me that she needed to make her health and safety a priority. Unfortunately it seems that Mindy did not sustain her treatment."

Mindy McCready's Ex 'Not Shocked' by Her Suicide

Mindy McCready's ex-boyfriend and the father of her 6-year-old son said Monday morning that he wasn't surprised when he heard that the troubled country singer had apparently taken her own life.
"As sad as it is, it didn't come as a major shock," Billy McKnight told the Today show. "She's just been battling demons for so long."
He added, "I was around her when she attempted suicide twice, so I knew it was in her."

Mindy McCready Is Dead in Apparent Suicide

Country singer Mindy McCready committed suicide Sunday at her home in Arkansas, authorities say. She was 37.
Cleburne County sheriff's deputies responded to a report of gunshots at 3:31 p.m. and discovered McCready's body on the front porch of her Heber Springs house.
"Ms. McCready was pronounced dead at the scene from what appears to be a single self-inflicted gunshot wound," the sheriff's department says in a statement. "At this time family members have been notified of the incident. Ms. Mcready will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and the matter will be fully investigated."

Mindy McCready Committed to Treatment Facility

Just three weeks after Mindy McCready lost her boyfriend, songwriter David Wilson, the embattled country singer has suffered another setback.
In an emergency hearing on Wednesday, a judge ordered McCready to be committed to a treatment facility to cope with mental health and alcohol issues. During the hearing, McCready, 37, admitted to drinking too much alcohol, blaming her overindulgence on her grief at Wilson's death.
McCready's two children – Zander, 6, and Zayne, 9 months – have been removed from her home and are currently in foster care.

Last year, things were looking up for Mindy McCready after a judge awarded her custody of her 6-year-old son, Zander.
"It was good news," her rep, Kat Atwood, tells PEOPLE. "The custody battle was over. Zander was comfortable at home with Mindy. She had a new baby. Things were going well."
But everything fell apart for McCready on Sunday night, when her partner, David Wilson, shot himself.

Mindy McCready is mourning the death of her "life partner," singer-songwriter David Wilson.
Wilson died at home in in Heber Springs, Ark., on Sunday evening of undisclosed causes.
The couple had been together for about two years. Wilson was the father of her 9-month-old son, Zayne. (McCready, 37, also has an older son, Zander, with country singer Billy McKnight.)

The father of Mindy McCready's 5-year-old son says he was "disappointed" when the country star fled Florida, but admits he wasn't surprised by her actions.
"I don't put things past Mindy," Billy McKnight tells PEOPLE. "Since I've known her, she often does things that I can't explain."
McCready, 36, is accused of taking 5-year-old Zander away from her mother, Gayle Inge, who has guardianship of the boy. McCready claims that her son was abused at Inge's home, a charge her mother denies.

Mindy McCready says her son gives her a reason to live.
"Zander saved my life," the embattled singer, 36, who has attempted suicide several times, tells ABC News's Andrea Canning on 20/20 in an interview scheduled to air Friday night. "Every time I wanted to let go and give in, I remember what he did for me. [I love him] more than anything. He is my little angel."
McCready – who was recently found hiding Zander, 5, in closet in Arkansas a few days after taking him from his legal guardian – admits that "everbody makes mistakes," but she doesn't consider snatching her son as one of them.
