Minnie Driver's Passion: Marine Wildlife

To say Minnie Driver is passionate about sea creatures is an understatement.

"Having my son and swimming with humpback whales were the two most religious experiences in my life," says the actress, who gave birth to son Henry last September and dove in the open ocean with 50-ton whales for a documentary back in 2006.

So when the chance arose to volunteer and lend her name this summer to a new campaign aimed at rescuing marine wildlife, she dove right in. "I was raised to believe that we are custodians of this planet," says the actress, 39, who spent time last month feeding distressed seals and sea lions at California's Marine Mammal Center, and is now acting as the spokesperson for Dawn's Everyday Wildlife Champions.

"This opportunity came up to be a part of something that brought something as everyday as Dawn washing-up liquid together with this Marine Mammal Center that I have worked with and that I love and support wildly," says Driver. "It just seemed like a great marriage."

Minnie Driver Welcomes a Son!

Minnie Driver became a first-time mom to son Henry Story Driver, her rep tells PEOPLE exclusively.

The baby was born Friday in Los Angeles and weighed 9 lbs., 12 oz., rep Jessica Kolstad says.

Driver, 38, who has not revealed the identity of the father, told PEOPLE in June that the dad will be involved in the baby's life.

"He's going to be a dad so yeah he's going to be there for the kid," she said. "I'm not getting married to this person and I don't know what's going to happen but everyone is cool about the situation."

When Minnie Driver gives birth to her first child next month, she’ll find out for the first time whether she's having a boy or a girl.

"I'm old-fashioned," the actress, 38, said at the New York press junket for her new film Take, a drama opening July 18.

"Women for thousands of years have not found out," she says. "I couldn't base something that was so auspicious and beautiful of that moment, and take away the surprise for home décor."

Her family and friends, however, can't stop speculating.

As the ladies of Sex and the City basked in the glitz and glamour of their world premiere, actress Minnie Driver was just around the corner, playing to a much smaller crowd.

The singer-songwriter – who's awaiting a world premiere of her own, the birth of her first child – took to the stage at the intimate Art's Theatre in London's Leicester Square to perform songs from her second album, Seastories.

Dressed in a one-shouldered black dress, the six-months-pregnant Riches star went on at 8:45 p.m., about 15 minutes behind schedule. "Sorry I'm late," she told the crowd. "I had to pee. I always have to pee at the moment."

Minnie Driver Jokes About Her Baby's Daddy

Pregnant Minnie Driver has yet to confirm the father of her baby ... until now.

"It's the Easter bunny," she joked to PEOPLE at An Evening with The Riches at The Paley Center for Media on Friday night. "I've never had sex," she said with a sly grin as she gestured to her belly.
