Minnie Driver Wants Baby's Gender to Be a Surprise

When Minnie Driver gives birth to her first child next month, she’ll find out for the first time whether she's having a boy or a girl.
"I'm old-fashioned," the actress, 38, said at the New York press junket for her new film Take, a drama opening July 18.
"Women for thousands of years have not found out," she says. "I couldn't base something that was so auspicious and beautiful of that moment, and take away the surprise for home décor."
Her family and friends, however, can't stop speculating.

Minnie Driver Enjoys Casual Baby Shower

Minnie Driver and about 40 guests gathered Saturday at a friend's home in Malibu for a baby shower.
The house was decorated with pink and white peonies, and it was a casual affair, with guests sipping basil lemonade and eating finger sandwiches and berry cake from Sweet Lady Jane.
"Minnie loves the cake," says a pal.
Driver opened Gymboree Brand New gifts, while guests hand-painted onesies for the baby and signed personal notes in a book to be given to the mom-to-be.

As the ladies of Sex and the City basked in the glitz and glamour of their world premiere, actress Minnie Driver was just around the corner, playing to a much smaller crowd.
The singer-songwriter – who's awaiting a world premiere of her own, the birth of her first child – took to the stage at the intimate Art's Theatre in London's Leicester Square to perform songs from her second album, Seastories.
Dressed in a one-shouldered black dress, the six-months-pregnant Riches star went on at 8:45 p.m., about 15 minutes behind schedule. "Sorry I'm late," she told the crowd. "I had to pee. I always have to pee at the moment."

Minnie Driver is breaking her silence – sort of – when it comes to the father of her baby.
First off, it's not the man, San Francisco musician Craig Zolezzi, who's been named in several press reports.
"Craig's not the dad!" the 6-months-pregnant star told the U.K.'s Independent Thursday. "He's my great friend and he's been so cool about it."

Pregnant Minnie Driver has yet to confirm the father of her baby ... until now.
"It's the Easter bunny," she joked to PEOPLE at An Evening with The Riches at The Paley Center for Media on Friday night. "I've never had sex," she said with a sly grin as she gestured to her belly.

She may be months away from giving birth, but first time mom-to-be Minnie Driver is already bracing for those sleepless nights.
"I'm going to be a very tired mother, I'm sure!" Driver told PEOPLE at the season-two premiere of The Riches in West Hollywood Sunday.
"No, I'm going to be happy," she corrected. "I'm going to be a happy mother."
The 38-year-old has a busy couple of months coming up – she's releasing her album, Seastories in the U.K. and touring Europe, Hawaii and L.A.
But after that, Drivers says, she'll be logging plenty of pre-baby R 'n R. "I'm just going to have the summer to be fat and happy," she said.

Minnie Driver announced her pregnancy on The Tonight Show – and now she's chatting with Ellen DeGeneres about the biggest dilemma facing her right now: what to name her baby.
"I have a pretty silly name," the Riches star says on an episode of the Ellen DeGeneres Show scheduled to air Monday. "Driver is kind of a hard name to put with a first name, particularly boys names … My friend sent me an email saying I should call the baby Duncan Driver. Then I can call it Dunk Driver, Pile Driver, Rally Driver."
Joked DeGeneres: "So you’re hoping for a girl, you're
saying."

Minnie Driver is expecting her first child, joking her morning sickness is so bad it actually occurs "morning, noon and night."
Driver, 38, revealed her pregnancy Thursday on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno after Leno quipped that it looked like she had gained weight from too many trips to the Hometown Buffet.
"Are you calling me fat? You've noticed my tummy, haven't you?" Driver asked.
"Are you pregnant?" Leno asked.
"Yes, I am," the actress said.

With the Oscars only days away (not that we're counting or anything), certainly all the nominees are busy with dress fittings, makeovers, last-minute workouts, interviews and the like. Not Kate Winslet – our spies spotted the down-to-earth star (a Best Actress nominee for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) lunching with her husband, director Sam Mendes, and her two tots on the patio at the Hotel Bel Air. Like any mom, Winslet (dressed in a green T-shirt, baggy pants and UGGs) reprimanded her 4-year-old daughter, Mia, for ordering fries and not eating them – and we're told the slimmed-down actress did help herself to a few. When a nearby table of ladies wished her luck at the Academy Awards, our spies say Winslet stopped to visit with them, and said she hadn't yet had time to think about it much, "what with kids and all." She did admit that there "was a lot of pressure, if you stopped to think about it," but then was off to show her children the swans.
