The Wiz's New Scarecrow Elijah Kelley: 'I Don't Want to Outdo Michael Jackson'

Originally posted 10/27/2015 05:45PM

He has rather large shoes to fill as he eases on down the road, but The Wiz Live!'s new Scarecrow considers the role a real thriller.

"I'm not intimidated. I'm not scared," said Elijah Kelley of taking on the role made famous by Michael Jackson in the Broadway musical's 1978 film adaptation.

"I don't want to outdo Mike. I don't want to overdo," he added at a Radio Andy-hosted SiriusXM Town Hall for the upcoming NBC live event.

But Kelley is happy to follow the path paved by the King of Pop in some ways, saying he feels blessed to sing "You Can't Win," which Jackson sang in the movie even though it did not appear in the original stage production.

Said Kelley, "There's big footprints to fill, but I know that God's blessed me with the ability to honor."

No tricks, lots of treats!

Tim McGraw and The Mavericks debuted songs from their upcoming 2013 albums at a private Halloween show in Nashville on Wednesday.

During McGraw's preview of songs from Two Lanes of Freedom, he was joined by R&B crooner Ne-Yo.

"Tim and Ne-Yo aren't a new collaboration. Ne-Yo recorded 'Only Human' with the country singer for his Emotional Traffic album," a source tells PEOPLE.

The singers performed "Only Human" and "She Is" before McGraw closed the set with his new single "One of Those Nights."

"One of Those Nights" will make its television debut during Thursday's Country Music Awards on ABC.

The Voice: RaeLynn, Tony Lucca Win Their Battles

Originally posted 03/06/2012 08:45AM

With the teams of 12 in place, coaches Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Cee Lo Green faced tough decisions Monday night as The Voice's battle rounds began.

But they had help: Kelly Clarkson and Shelton's wife Miranda Lambert assisted Team Blake; Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds and Ne-Yo advised Team Cee Lo; Alanis Morissette and Robin Thicke helped Team Adam; and Jewel and Lionel Richie guided Team Christina.

Levine picked U2's "Beautiful Day" for Chris Cauley and former Mouseketeer Tony Lucca. Both singers were strong in battle. Cee Lo said Lucca "articulated the song a lot clearer." Blake said he'd choose Cauley because his pitch was spot on. But Levine opted for Lucca saying, "Tony, you blow me away."

He sings, he dances, he writes music – and now, Ne-Yo is going to act.

The R&B star, who had a role in Stomp the Yard 2, will appear on an episode of CSI: NY, a rep at the CBS show confirms exclusively to PEOPLE.

"Ne-Yo will be playing a professional hit man who doesn't fit the usual image of a hired killer," the rep says. "This guy carries himself with elegant style but a violent efficiency."

The episode is scheduled to air in February 2011 and there are plans to feature music from Ne-Yo's latest album, Libra Scale.
