The How I Met Your Mother actor and his hubby David Burtka were joined by several friends, including Glee's Jayma Mays, at Old Port of Montreal, where they took in a viewing of Amaluna, the newest show from Cirque du Soleil.

The group started their night by sipping cocktails in the V.I.P. Tapis Rouge tent before the show – and after the performance, they greeted the cast and crew backstage.

"The whole group [seemed] thrilled to see the show," a source tells PEOPLE. "They seemed very excited, especially Neil. They took home souvenirs and took photos with cast members."

Harris, who Tweeted his approval of the "spectacular" celebratory day, capped off his celebration with dinner at Au Pied de Cochon with handsome hubby Burtka, whom he called "delicious."

Broadway celebrated itself Sunday night – and crowned Once and playwright Bruce Norris's Clybourne Park as the season's best musical and drama, in a star-studded evening that third-time host Neil Patrick Harris called "the 66th annual Tony Awards, or, as we like to call it, Fifty Shades of Gay."

Clybourne Park, which also won a 2011 Pulitzer Prize, takes its cues from Lorraine Hansberry's 1959 play A Raisin in the Sun, about developments in a Chicago neighborhood after the Younger family has moved in and moved on. The best play Tony was that show's only win; it was bested in the straight play category by Peter and the Starcatcher, a kind of prequel to Peter Pan, which won five.

The modest Dublin-set musical Once, based on the independent 2006 movie by the same title, practically swept the musical category, winning eight Tonys, including best musical, best musical direction and best musical actor for Steve Kazee.

Neil Patrick Harris's Twins Meet Oprah

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka's twins, Gideon and Harper, welcomed a very special visitor recently – Oprah Winfrey.

"They're super healthy and they're happy," Harris says on Oprah's Next Chapter of the 19-month-old twins, who were born via surrogate in October 2010.

In Harris's and Burtka's telling, the twins' conception was a miracle of modern science, involving two embryos – one for each of them – and a surrogate. ("She was more like the oven," according to Burtka.)

Broadway's biggest night – the 66th annual Tony Awards – may be 40 days away, but the celebrating has already kicked in, especially for a modest new musical called Once, a love story set in Ireland that scored the most nominations of any show this year: 11, including best musical.

Not celebrating: the much-maligned Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, which, despite an expenditure of $70 million, scads of publicity and the music of U2's Bono and the Edge, landed with only two nominations, for costume and scenic design.

Faring better after the nominations were announced Tuesday morning – by a chipper Kristin Chenoweth and a droll star Jim Parsons, who is about to star in a Broadway revival of the comedy Harvey – were such nominees as Andrew Garfield, Cynthia Nixon, Philip Seymour Hoffman, James Earl Jones, Stockard Channing, Linda Lavin, John Lithgow and Frank Langella.

At the Audi Super Bowl cocktail party Saturday evening, Glee's Matthew Morrison and girlfriend Renee Puente celebrated with fellow Giants fan Aaron Paul and his new fiancée, Lauren Parsekian, before the spouses-to-be took in the view of Indianapolis's Lucas Oil Stadium from the balcony of the Conrad Hotel. Also enjoying the sight: Kellan Lutz, who gushed over the midwestern city's beauty.

Meanwhile, Neil Patrick Harris and partner David Burtka enjoyed a rare moment away from caring for their twins to talk football with partygoers, while Spike Lee couldn't hold back his excitement over bringing his son to his first Super Bowl to root for the hometown Giants. But by the time Patriots owner Robert Kraft popped in, he could claim to be in friendly territory, as Erin Andrews and Maria Menounos made it clear they were Pats gals. – Jessica Wedemeyer

Neil Patrick Harris and his partner David Burtka's kids Gideon and Harper may only be 15-months-old – but that doesn't impact the way the actor talks to them. It's a parenting tip he says he picked up from his own mom and dad.

"My parents always talked to my brother and myself like we were regular people and not babies," Harris tells PEOPLE. "So I don't talk down to them in baby talk. I try to talk to them even though they can't speak the language yet."

As for their personalities, Harris says, "They're thankfully in the new huggy, clingy, head-on-shoulders phase, which is fantastic. It'll brighten up a sad day every single time."
