Nick Lachey to Host New Singing Competition Show

For those who shared the Aussies' outrage over Britney Spears, here's a new TV show for you: The Sing-Off, a competition you can not sync your lips into.
Hosted by Nick Lachey, the four-night NBC series premiering Dec. 14 features eight singing groups vying for an Epic Records/Sony Recording contract, and the only instruments allowed will be their own voices.
"There is nowhere to hide when you're doing an a cappella song," Lachey, the former member of 98 Degrees (and, he reveals, a barbershop quartet before that), tells PEOPLE. "There’s no band behind you and dubbing. It's just you. It’s just them naked on stage and what they have done to prepare is what will show through in that moment." – Jennifer Garcia and Mike Fleeman

Rachael Ray, Nick Lachey Feed a City

If it's true that a full belly makes for a happy soul, Rachael Ray has put smiles on enough souls to fill a good part of heaven, thanks to her good deed for the city of Cincinnati.
The TV cooking-show and award-winning talk-show host and walking name brand unveiled a makeover for a soup kitchen in the struggling city, with help from native Nick Lachey on Saturday.
"This town has been devastated," Ray said, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "We want to do something for them that will last much longer than one meal, one day."

Nick Lachey & Vanessa Minnillo: Back On!

Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo split in June, but beginning in late August, sightings began cropping up of them together at nightclubs across the country – and in some instances they were engaged in some heavy PDA.
At the time, sources told PEOPLE that Lachey, 35, and Minnillo, 25, were merely "hanging out" and they were not officially back together.
Well, things have changed. "I am happy in a relationship," Lachey told Good Day Philadelphia on Thursday. "I was single for a minute, there, and then we've kind of patched things up." Lachey also described Minnillo as "a very smart girl. She's far smarter than I!"

Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo Get Cozy in Three Cities

Some couples just can't stay apart – just ask Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo, who've been spotted rekindling their romance in three different cities in the last week.
The couple, who split in June after three years together, were spotted last weekend in Los Angeles making out in a booth at the bar Dime, completely unaware of anything in the world except each other.
Then, on Wednesday, the couple took it to the East Coast, where they hit a party at the bar McFadden's with Entourage star Kevin Connolly. Lachey, 35, and Minnillo, 28, called it a night early and left at the unfashionable hour of 9 p.m.
Just the next day, the pair decided to spread the love to the Midwest, and were spotted together at Cincinnati's new hot spot, The Righteous Room.

Nick Lachey on Jessica Simpson: I Wish Her the Best

Although Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey, former spouses and stars of the reality show Newlyweds, now find themselves suddenly single at the same time, Lachey insists there is no reunion planned.
"I think it’s fun storytelling, but there's very little truth to any of it," the singer told PEOPLE at a party at Dusk at the Caesars Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City Saturday night. "I certainly have heard about her breakup and I wish her the best, as I’ve always done. Aside from that, there really is nothing to say."
So has he reached out to his ex-wife since her sudden split with Tony Romo? "I haven't talked to her in probably two years," Lachey says. "I wish her happiness. That’s where it pretty much ends."

Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo Split

Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo have called it quits, reps for each confirm to PEOPLE.
"They have amicably split but remain good friends who still greatly care for one another," Minnillo's rep tells PEOPLE of the couple, who began dating in 2006.
The split comes after a rash of breakup rumors and reports, which were shot down. Earlier this month Minnillo told PEOPLE that she and Lachey were "very much still on."
A source says Minnillo, 28, and Lachey, 35, are "still friends. It was the right thing for both of them to do."

Memo to Nick Lachey: Vanessa Minnillo has marriage on the mind – and hand.
Pointing to a 5-carat ring on her middle finger, Minnillo, 28, tells Las Vegas columnist Robin Leach, "It will be 10 carats when it moves to the fourth finger!"
Leach says she was laughing when she said it. But in the course of a brief interview posted on his Vegas DeLuxe blog, Minnillo mentions marriage three times.
Noting that Lachey, 35, couldn't make it to Vegas with her because he was at a friend's birthday party, she pouted, "So once again it looks as if I'm always the bridesmaid but never the bride."

Jon and Kate Gosselin aren't the first reality stars to face marital problems. Although audiences love the unscripted TV couples, the constant scrutiny can put the brakes on "happily ever after." Here are a few couples whose marriages couldn't survive another season.

Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey became household names by adjusting to married life after their 2002 wedding. In the 41-episode series, Simpson played the "dumb blonde" while Lachey was the longsuffering husband.
Simpson and Lachey announced their separation just eight months after the last episode aired on MTV. In the divorce filing, Simpson cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason behind the split. Lachey later told USA Today that the reality show was a factor in the decision. "Jessica and I began playing these parts even when we were by ourselves," he said of their roles. "It became a really blurred line. There was a question about what truly was our reality."
Since the split, Lachey has been dating Vanessa Minnillo. Simpson briefly dated John Mayer and is now seeing Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.

Nick Lachey Gears Up for TV Projects, New Album

Nick Lachey's been keeping a relatively low profile in recent months, but that's about to change.
First up: Taking The Stage, an MTV reality show that he's executive producing, debuts March 19. (People.com's TV Watch had an exclusive first look.)
Next, on April 27, he'll make a cameo on The CW's One Tree Hill. And later in the spring, his album Coming Up For Air will be released – his first since 2006's What's Left Of Me.
As Lachey, 35, criss crosses the country promoting the album’s first single, "Patience," he’s also busily singing the praises of his high school alma mater, Cincinnati's School for the Creative and Performing Arts. Which happens to be the setting for Taking The Stage, a 10-episode series that follows five students as they strive for careers as actors, dancers and singers.

Nick Lachey Loves Dating a Fellow Football Fanatic

Unlike other guys, Nick Lachey doesn't have to choose between sports night and date night.
“I’m a huge sports fan and she’s a huge sports fan across the board, too,” Lachey, 35, tells PEOPLE of his girlfriend of over two years, Vanessa Minnillo.
“In fact, football night often becomes date night, which is a nice combo for me,” says Lachey, who was in Tampa Bay Friday night hosting a kickoff party for his Super Skins Celebrity Golf Tournament, a Super Bowl charity fund-raiser he hosted with NASCAR Sprint Cup champ Jimmie Johnson. “She’s down to hang out and go to the game. So it’s definitely something we agree on.”
