She may not know anything about losing Rachelle Lefevre as a Twilight castmate, but Nikki Reed has a pretty good idea why fans swoon for costar Robert Pattinson.

With news still fresh on Lefevre being replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard in Eclipse, the third film of the popular series, Reed, who plays vampire Rosalie Hale, tells PEOPLE she hasn't "talked to [Lefevere] yet." "I don't know anything about it other than a schedule conflict," said Reed at the Express TXT L8TR Campaign party at Nobu in West Hollywood Wednesday night – the same day the news broke of the switch.

Twilight's Nikki Reed: 'So Proud' of Taylor Lautner

As the Twilight cast heads to Vancouver this week to begin rehearsals for the film's sequel, New Moon, Nikki Reed says she's relieved to have pal Taylor Lautner in the cast.

"I'm so proud of him," she tells PEOPLE. "He didn't have the part."

Lautner, who portrayed Jacob in Twilight, had to audition to keep his role in New Moon because the character undergoes a drastic physical transformation and becomes a hulking werewolf.

"Everybody knew he was going to have to fight for this," says Reed, 20, who plays vampire Rosalie Hale. "He was at the gym twice or three times a day. He was on a nutrition and workout regime for the last year not knowing if he would be in this film."

CAST: Fresh from her win for best debut performance at the Independent Spirit Awards Saturday, Nikki Reed, 16, is set to re-team with her "thirteen" director Catherine Hardwicke on the 1970s skateboarding drama "Lords of Dogtown," a fictionalized version of Stacy Peralta's documentary "Dogtown and Z-Boys," says the Hollywood Reporter. Reed will play the kid sister of one of the skateboarders. Heath Ledger, Emile Hirsch, John Robinson ("Elephant") and Victor Rasuk ("Raising Victor Vargas") also star.
