Proving once again that the pen is mightier than the sword, a Hollywood feud of nearly Biblical proportions seems to be developing between Mel Gibson and screenwriter Joe Eszterhas over what was to have been Gibson's movie about Jewish warrior Judah Maccabee.
In a scathing, single-spaced, nine-page letter from Eszterhas to Gibson, dated April 9 and obtained by TheWrap.com, the writer alleges that Gibson never intended to make the movie and, furthermore, "I've come to the conclusion that the reason you won't make 'The Maccabees' is the ugliest possible one. You hate Jews," Eszterhas writes.
The letter also states that Eszterhas (whose screenwriting credits include Basic Instinct and Showgirls) was prepared to write "the Jewish 'Braveheart,' " and he ticks off various ugly epithets that he claims Gibson used to describe Jews. His message also alleges Gibson threatened the life of his ex-girlfriend, Oksana Gregorieva.

To end the acrimonious dispute that practically dates back to the October 2009 birth of their daughter, Lucia, Mel Gibson agreed on Wednesday to pay $750,000 over the next five years to ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.
The actor-filmmaker will also allow her to continue to live in a house he owns in Los Angeles.
"Thanks, your honor, for bringing this case to a reasonable conclusion," Gibson, 55, told Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Peter D. Lichtman, who articulated in a hearing the terms agreed upon by the parties over four days of negotiation last week.
Under the deal, Gibson will sell the house when Lucia turns 18 and puts the proceeds in a trust for her.

Mel Gibson was sentenced Friday in a Los Angeles courtroom to three years probation, a year-long domestic violence counseling program, community service and various fines in his battery case involving his ex-girlfriend.
A calm-looking Gibson, 55, wearing a navy blue suit, pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor count of domestic violence allegedly committed against Oksana Grigorieva in January 2010. Gibson made no statements other than to acknowledge his plea to the judge and to say that he understood the proceedings.
It was also revealed in court that Gibson is undergoing psychological counseling as part of his plea deal reached with prosecutors. He was also served with a protective order not to "threaten or harass anyone involved in the case."
By pleading no contest, Gibson "may maintain his innocence and does so now," his attorney Blair Berk told Judge Stephanie Sautner. "He's entering his plea because it's in the best interest of his children."

Whether Mel Gibson and Oksana Grigorieva will face any criminal charges following their nasty
breakup now lies in the hands of Los Angeles prosecutors.
L.A. Sheriff officials confirmed Wednesday that they've wrapped a seven-month-long investigation into allegations that the Russian musician tried to extort millions from the actor/director with recorded phone conversations.
Gibson, meanwhile, is accused of domestic violence after a scuffle between the former couple at his Malibu home in Jan. 2010. Gibson admitted in court documents only to slapping Grigorieva to restrain her from shaking their baby Lucia.

But the actor-director says Grigorieva grabbed Lucia, 1, out her of bassinet and eventually ran out into the backyard, according to TMZ.com, which obtained the court documents.

Mel Gibson was ordered Wednesday to pay three months of back child support totaling $60,000 to Oksana Grigorieva for their 1-year-old daughter Lucia, sources tell PEOPLE.
Gibson had delayed making $20,000 monthly payments while his attorneys tried to clarify if he could deduct the $6,000-a-month he pays for the Los Angeles home where Grigorieva, 40, lives with her 61-year-old mother and Lucia, sources say.
During a family court hearing in Los Angeles Superior Court, Judge Scott Gordon denied the housing deduction.
