Great TV duos come in all forms: Kirk and Spock, Bert and Ernie, Jerry and George. But one of the true twosome treasures of American television is Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie.
Long before JWoww and Snooki, these famous-by-last-name socialites first hair-flipped into our world via The Simple Life, blurting ridiculous sounds bites and dishing out blank stares for a bemused TV audience.
With the power of hindsight and nostalgia, it's easy to see how 2003 was an easier time than today. In remembrance of a bygone era, here are 10 ways The Simple Life proves that 2003 was a less complicated time.

Is a kiss just a kiss, even on Halloween?
An eyewitness tells PEOPLE that Miley Cyrus got hot and heavy with Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden at a party at West Hollywood nightclub Bootsy Bellows on Thursday night hosted by Adam Lambert. It was Lambert who brought Madden to Cyrus's table.
"They were really into each other," the eyewitness at the Ciroc-sponsored party said about Cyrus and Madden. "I saw them making out at one point, and his hand was on her legs the majority of the time. They were very touchy-feely."
Still, a source close to the "Wrecking Ball" singer, who came dressed as Lil' Kim – pasty and all – says it wasn't as hot and heavy as all that.
"Nothing happened between Miley and Benji," says the Cyrus source. "After being introduced at the club, they chatted but it wasn't romantic. They left the club with a group of people and went to a house party. Miley and Benji had fun together, but they didn't hook up."

Alyssa Milano dressed her little pups as yummy tacos, while the pups of singer Aubrey O'Day morphed into a bunny and a mermaid.
Modern Family star Sarah Hyland's Maltipoo Barkley went rogue dressing as a "little devil bat dog." And actress Chloë Grace Moretz doted on dog Jaxon who was a witchy villain.

Never one to shy away from letting loose, Paris Hilton made her presence known on Saturday night at the A|X Armani Exchange and T-Mobile Neon Carnival near Coachella.
The socialite was front and center in the deejay area at the party – which also drew out guests such as Emma Roberts, Gerard Butler and Usher – where she shouted at the crowd and twirled around in her dress.
"At one point, she started swinging her head in circles," says an onlooker. "Her hair was flying everywhere. She was definitely having a good time."
Earlier in the day, the socialite and her deejay boyfriend Afrojack were attached at the hip in a private cabana at a Chevy Volt party.

Emma Watson has abandoned her clean-cut Hermione look to play a bad girl in the upcoming movie The Bling Ring, about the five-person Los Angeles gang that burgled the homes of celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Orlando Bloom in 2008 and 2009, when most of its members were teenagers.
Watson, who turns 22 Sunday, was photographed on the Los Angeles set filming scenes in a bra, a black leather jacket, and skimpy denim shorts as her character, Nicki.

This week's war of words between Jon Hamm and Kim Kardashian has reached a ceasefire, at least for the time being.
"It's surprising to me that it has become remotely a story," the Mad Man star, 41, told E! News about his unflattering quotes to ELLE UK about the reality star, whom he labeled "stupid."
"I don't know Ms. Kardashian," Hamm continued. "I know her public persona. What I said was meant to be more on pervasiveness of something in our culture, not personal, but she took offense to it, and that is her right."
As E! notes, this sounds more like an amplification rather than an apology.
