Paula Deen stepped out at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival to love and affection from hundreds of fans.
The former Food Network star, 67, took the Miami stage on Sunday to a standing ovation and addressed attendees about the tough year that she has weathered.
"We have come off a very hard summer," Deen – who admitted in a deposition to using a racial slur years ago and was subsequently dropped by the Food Network and several sponsors – said at the start of her cooking demonstration. "Some people said I never apologized. If anyone did not hear me, I want to apologize."
Deen has mostly been laying low since then. "I just have to say your cards and letters helped me get out of bed every day," the Southern chef told fans.

After a self-proclaimed "hard summer," during which she admitted to using a racial slur, was dropped by the Food Network and several sponsors, and endured rumors of marital discord, Paula Deen says she's looking forward to the new year.
"I'm gonna be really, really happy to see 2013 gone," Deen, 66, recently told about 200 guests at the Salvation Army Golden Kettle gala in Savannah, Ga. "There may be something in that number 13."
But as she reflected on the tumultuous year in front of the crowd, Deen called the past six months an "opportunity for me to grow."

Paula Deen has found something to feel good about after a pretty terrible summer.
The Southern chef, 66, broke down in tears after receiving thunderous applause during a 10-minute standing ovation at the Metro Cooking & Entertaining show in Houston on Saturday.
"These are tears of joy, y'all," she said. "This is my first time out in three months. … The one place I wanted to make my first step out was in Texas. You are forgiving folks with hearts as big as your state."

Paula Deen and a former employee have reached a settlement to dismiss the remaining claims in a lawsuit that cost the celebrity chef a chunk of her empire.
The U.S. District Court in Savannah, Ga., on Friday formally dismissed the sexual harassment case with prejudice, meaning it can't be filed again, just days after the judge threw out the racial discrimination portion of the lawsuit.
A court document said both sides reached the settlement "without any award of costs or fees to any party."
