Dancing with the Stars: NeNe Leakes Gets Booted, Amy Purdy Is Injured

Originally posted 04/28/2014 10:40PM

Latin was the theme of Monday night's Dancing with the Stars, and even guest judge Ricky Martin brought the heat.

Amy Purdy and Derek Hough were declared safe right away and kicked off the night with a 36-out-of-40-point rumba to a slowed-down rendition of "Light My Fire" by the Doors.

"You lit my fire! ... First out, first class," head judge Len Goodman told the pair, while Martin gushed, "You were stunning. You made me feel a lot of things."

But the night wasn't entirely a win for Purdy, who was sent to the hospital shortly after her performance with a shoulder injury. She was unable to perform the group dance with her team at the end of the evening, and the dress rehearsal dance was used to judge the routine (more on that later).

Peta Murgatroyd's DWTS Blog: Our Dance This Week Is a 'Very Sexy Samba'

Peta Murgatroyd is a former Dancing with the Stars champion, winning the coveted mirror-ball trophy in season 14 – only her second season on the series – with Donald Driver. The Australia native is blogging for PEOPLE about competing with Big Time Rush band member James Maslow during the show's 18th season.

I think James did an amazing job last week. The quickstep is really hard, and we had the added pressure of coming off a perfect score the week before. It's difficult to get 10s every week, so we were aiming for eights and nines, and we got all nines and one eight so I was happy with him. He did the best that he's ever done.

Coming off the perfect score added pressure during the week, but it's only because you're learning a completely different style the next week. I've been teaching him all these contemporary moves, and then the next week you throw them out the window. That's what's frustrating, because there's really nothing that he can take with him that I've taught him, so it’s like starting fresh again each week.

Get ready to par-TAY!

Monday night's Dancing with the Stars showcased party anthems, with guest judge Redfoo from LMFAO helping to weed out the ho-hum from the fun.

James Maslow and Peta Murgatroyd entered as the charmed couple after getting a perfect score on Disney week, while Candace Cameron Bure and Mark Ballas were just holding on and Drew Carey and Cheryl Burke hoped that audience scores would prop them up for another week.

Except, that didn't happen.

Last week's perfect score was totally awesome. I couldn't have been prouder of James. Everything just worked out. The lifts weren't working out during the day at dress rehearsal and I really pushed him to the limit that week and stepped up the choreography. We nailed that dance. It was so much fun.

I think James is really talented and I need to keep working him really hard and can't have him sit back with easy choreography. I feel like we kind of had a breakthrough last week with combining the emotion and the technique. I think James was great at contemporary, but we really need to focus on the ballroom dances.

DWTS' James Maslow Talks Taking Fan to Disneyland: It a 'Blessing'

Monday's Disney-themed episode of Dancing with the Stars was quite magical – but the fairy tales didn't only take place for the dance partners.

One lucky James Maslow fan had her wish granted: to meet the handsome DWTS contestant.

Hannah Wackernagle, a 18-year-old Ohio high school senior with Down syndrome, invited her famous crush to her school prom – but because of scheduling conflicts, she received the ultimate surprise treat instead.

"It was the perfect week, because I knew she was [not only] a big Big Time Rush fan, but also a big Disney fan," Maslow, with Wackernagle at his side, told reporters backstage after scoring the first perfect 40 out of 40 for the season (more on that in a bit).

"So Peta [Murgatroyd] and I got together and got her tickets and we went on a bunch of rides and we got Mickey Mouse ears."

James Maslow 'Doesn't Dwell' on Childhood Bullying over His Weight

James Maslow has been characterized as the heartthrob of season 18's Dancing with the Stars.

But on Monday night, fans of the hunky Big Time Rush singer, 23, had their jaws dropping about his appearance for much different reasons than usual.

During the most memorable year-themed episode, the La Jolla, Calif.-born musician gave viewers a very personal look into his upbringing, which was filled with bullying by his peers because he was overweight.

"Everyone has their challenges growing up," he told PEOPLE after his revealing segment aired. "I've definitely had quite a few of them, and it's cool to be able to share that with people. I haven't really talked about it in a long time."

Rehearsals have been so good, but James is so tired right now. Oh, my god, the jive is kicking his butt. But I'm still relishing in the success of last week's performance. He had great technique and he mastered all the lifts. I just thought he put on a great show, so I was very, very happy.
