DWTS' James Maslow Talks Taking Fan to Disneyland: It a 'Blessing'

Originally posted 04/15/2014 10:20AM

Monday's Disney-themed episode of Dancing with the Stars was quite magical – but the fairy tales didn't only take place for the dance partners.

One lucky James Maslow fan had her wish granted: to meet the handsome DWTS contestant.

Hannah Wackernagle, a 18-year-old Ohio high school senior with Down syndrome, invited her famous crush to her school prom – but because of scheduling conflicts, she received the ultimate surprise treat instead.

"It was the perfect week, because I knew she was [not only] a big Big Time Rush fan, but also a big Disney fan," Maslow, with Wackernagle at his side, told reporters backstage after scoring the first perfect 40 out of 40 for the season (more on that in a bit).

"So Peta [Murgatroyd] and I got together and got her tickets and we went on a bunch of rides and we got Mickey Mouse ears."

James Maslow 'Doesn't Dwell' on Childhood Bullying over His Weight

Originally posted 04/02/2014 08:50AM

James Maslow has been characterized as the heartthrob of season 18's Dancing with the Stars.

But on Monday night, fans of the hunky Big Time Rush singer, 23, had their jaws dropping about his appearance for much different reasons than usual.

During the most memorable year-themed episode, the La Jolla, Calif.-born musician gave viewers a very personal look into his upbringing, which was filled with bullying by his peers because he was overweight.

"Everyone has their challenges growing up," he told PEOPLE after his revealing segment aired. "I've definitely had quite a few of them, and it's cool to be able to share that with people. I haven't really talked about it in a long time."

There's been no lack of excitement during season 18 of Dancing with the Stars.

Following an unexpected double elimination last week, this week's show – which featured Robin Roberts as a guest judge – had one couple backing out of the competition due to injury, and the rest of the couples digging into their most personal moments and sharing them with a teary-eyed audience during a most memorable year-themed episode.

Rehearsals have been so good, but James is so tired right now. Oh, my god, the jive is kicking his butt. But I'm still relishing in the success of last week's performance. He had great technique and he mastered all the lifts. I just thought he put on a great show, so I was very, very happy.

Dancing with the Stars Double Elimination: Who Went Home?

Originally posted 03/24/2014 10:25PM

Monday night's Dancing with the Stars kicked off with a selection of surprises.

Not only did contestants learn right at the beginning that there was a double elimination to take place during the show, but the leader board's lowest scorer Billy Dee Williams – whose face expressed fear of being sent home – was saved almost immediately, and went on to dance a 15-point tango with Emma Slater that judge Len Goodman said "didn't have enough attack."

Before getting to the unfortunate two who were forced to bid adieu, here's a recap of how the night went overall:

There have been so many changes on the show this season, but I'm happy with them.

I think Erin [Andrews] did an amazing job at the premiere. I think she adds like this girl-next-door vibe to the show. I think Dancing with the Stars wanted to create a new audience this season and really liven it up a little more. I think she's helping to do that. Her interviews are great and she's really down to earth. She's really conversational.

James Maslow Is 'Flattered' by All the Peta Murgatroyd Dating Buzz

Another season of Dancing with the Stars, another set of dating rumors to set straight.

Season 18's token are-they-or-aren't-they duo are Peta Murgatroyd, 27, and James Maslow, 23, who admitted in a package during Monday's premiere that they did go on a date before they were ever partnered, but it never flourished into anything.

There's nothing more to it than that – at least right now – the pair insists, calling all of the buzz about it "funny."

Following their 21-point foxtrot, Maslow told PEOPLE backstage, "We'll be asked the same question rephrased 17 times, and yet they expect different answers. On occasion, like in that package [they showed tonight], they'll get [answers they want] because we're just bored and we want to go."

Candace Cameron Bure Shares Pics of 'Brutal' Bruises from DWTS Rehearsals

Candace Cameron Bure kicked off her career at age 10, starring in the popular series Full House. Since the show wrapped in '95, the actress got married, had three kids and wrote two books. She's been paired with two-time mirror ball-winning champ Mark Ballas for season 18 of Dancing with the Stars and she'll be sharing her experience with PEOPLE readers.

I'm hurting a lot today. I still have energy, but I'm just incredibly sore and beat up. It is what I expected, but the contemporary dance, which is what we're starting with, has proven to physically be beyond what I had expected.

We're literally rolling on the floor for some of this dance. I've done races and mud runs and I've crawled up hills under barbed wire, and I've never had bruises bigger than the bruises I have now from doing this dance.
