Another season of Dancing with the Stars, another set of dating rumors to set straight.
Season 18's token are-they-or-aren't-they duo are Peta Murgatroyd, 27, and James Maslow, 23, who admitted in a package during Monday's premiere that they did go on a date before they were ever partnered, but it never flourished into anything.
There's nothing more to it than that – at least right now – the pair insists, calling all of the buzz about it "funny."
Following their 21-point foxtrot, Maslow told PEOPLE backstage, "We'll be asked the same question rephrased 17 times, and yet they expect different answers. On occasion, like in that package [they showed tonight], they'll get [answers they want] because we're just bored and we want to go."

Peta Murgatroyd is a former Dancing with the Stars champion, winning the coveted mirror-ball trophy in season 14 – only her second season on the series – with Donald Driver. The Australia native will blog for PEOPLE about competing with Big Time Rush band member James Maslow during the show's 18th season.
This has been the most work I've ever had in the off-season. I didn't stop working. I was touring and making appearances and attending charity events. I didn't get any break or holiday or anything like that, but that's how I like it. I love being busy. It felt like this season crept up so quickly. The premiere is right around the corner and I feel like I just met James.
I think there's a very eclectic bunch of people this season and, so far, everybody has such a nice personality and demeanor. There's not one of them who isn't really, really lovely to work with. I think having three Olympians will be amazing for the competition. They're going to make everyone work a little bit harder to catch up to them.

Candace Cameron Bure kicked off her career at age 10, starring in the popular series Full House. Since the show wrapped in '95, the actress got married, had three kids and wrote two books. She's been paired with two-time mirror ball-winning champ Mark Ballas for season 18 of Dancing with the Stars and she'll be sharing her experience with PEOPLE readers.
I'm hurting a lot today. I still have energy, but I'm just incredibly sore and beat up. It is what I expected, but the contemporary dance, which is what we're starting with, has proven to physically be beyond what I had expected.
We're literally rolling on the floor for some of this dance. I've done races and mud runs and I've crawled up hills under barbed wire, and I've never had bruises bigger than the bruises I have now from doing this dance.

It was an emotional farewell for Brant Daugherty and Peta Murgatroyd, who fought back tears backstage after being dismissed from Monday night's Cher-themed Dancing with the Stars.
"I just really learned a lot about myself," the Pretty Little Liars actor, 28, said, with his partner by his side. "I had to push myself in how far I'd go. I can learn new things. I can always keep going."
Daugherty believes being on the show helped him in the long run with his career.

It was a night of exciting performances, positive reviews from the judges and a pair of big twists for the eight remaining couples on Dancing with the Stars Monday night.
First, the pairs had to perform in an improvisational switch-up challenge, which required them to show off their ability to transition seamlessly while dancing to music that suddenly changed.
Then, at elimination time, there was an even bigger twist that one no one – not even producers – had seen coming.

Brant Daugherty returned home Sept. 23 feeling victorious after a successful night on the dance floor. But moments later his Dancing with the Stars triumph turned to terror as a man approached him with a gun and demanded he hand over his possessions.
"After the show I got dropped off and was walking up to my apartment building and a man followed me up with a gun and told me to give him my stuff," Daugherty told PEOPLE backstage at DWTS Monday.
"It was a complete random occurrence of events and it led up to one of the worst nights of my life – after having such a great night last week on the dance floor," he also said, adding that police said they never received a report like his in his "very safe neighborhood."

It sounds like Corbin Bleu is the frontrunner on Dancing with the Stars this season – at least according to one of his competitors.
"I'm really watching out for Corbin," Brant Daugherty, 28, recently told PEOPLE mid-rehearsal. "I think he's going to give us a definite run for our money this season."
The Pretty Little Liars actor's partner Peta Murgatroyd noted that Bleu has a lot of previous dancing experience, but she's got her eye on Amber Riley.

Were Sean Lowe's fans able to save him from being eliminated on Tuesday night's Dancing with the Stars?
On Monday, the former Bachelor star failed to impress the judges with a pair of foot-fumbling routines that put him at the very bottom of the leader board with 42 points out of 60.
Soap star Ingo Rademacher trailed not too far behind with 48 points for the night.
Read on to find out if one of these handsome men were forced to say goodbye to the ballroom.
