PEOPLE's TV Critic's Arrested Development Review: It's Just Not as Funny
Originally posted 05/27/2013 11:30AM
Arrested Development, one of the cleverest sitcoms of all time, returned to life over the weekend, as Netflix launched an entire season of 15 new episodes for instant and, if one so chooses, marathon streaming.
This is a cause for celebration: reviving a cult network classic as digital, 24/7 programming is something like cloning a fresh mastodon from genetic material tweezered off a frozen carcass.
There is no guarantee, however, that the genetic material may not have mutated or deteriorated with time.
That is the case with Arrested Development, which lasted a mere three seasons on Fox despite ecstatic praise and is now regarded as such a classic that this revival has been wildly anticipated (and hyped).

A little too friendly?
That was the scene for Jennifer Aniston when she sought some impromptu hosting advice from her former Friends costar Matthew Perry in a funny new skit to promote her Wednesday gig as co-host of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
In the clip (watch it below), Aniston knocks Perry's door to get some tips from her former castmate, who also has co-hosted the show.
"We haven't actually seen each other in like a really long time, 8 years. ... You really should have called," said a nervous Perry, who looked on sheepishly as their mutual pal and former costar Courteney Cox emerges from his house after an obvious sleepover.

Apparently birthdays and breakdancing go hand-in-hand for Justin Theroux.
After granting fiancée Jennifer Aniston her wish by spinning on the floor when she turned 43, he recently showed off his skills at a joint birthday bash for pals Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi. But this time, Julianne Hough, 24, gave the actor, 41, a run for his money.
"[They] decided to have a breakdancing break-off," DeGeneres said Thursday on Ellen. "So we wanted to roll the rug back so they could spin on the floor. And [Julianne] was wearing a skirt and goes, 'I need pants.' ... She and Justin Theroux had a huge dance-off. It was crazy. It was a really fun night. She's an amazing dancer."

A slam dunk for Twilight!
Robert Pattinson stepped out Sunday night to attend Emmy host Jimmy Kimmel's after party at Soho House in Los Angeles.
Joined by a male friend, Pattinson was dressed casually in a baseball cap and jacket, but every girl in the room was "trying to get his attention," an onlooker tells PEOPLE.
Inside the star studded event, guests sipped on Don Julio margaritas and Bulleit Bourbon Old Fashioned cocktails and snacked on sliders from Umami Burger.
Samantha Ronson deejayed a set full of current hits and classic rock while nominees, winners and guests including Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi, Downton Abbey's Michelle Dockery, L.A. Laker Kobe Bryant and more enjoyed the evening.
"At one point Rob approached Kobe to say hi and tell him he was a big fan," the source adds. "Kobe said the same right back to him!"
