April 22 marks the 30th anniversary of Prince's Around the World in a Day. Coming on the heels of Purple Rain, it would have been – if it were released by anyone else – overshadowed by that record. But this is Prince we're talking about, and so we're talking about an album that gave us "Raspberry Beret," as perfect a pop song as Prince ever wrote.

Similar to that time he showed up as a surprise presenter at the Golden Globes to the delight of Louis C.K., Channing Tatum and everyone else, Prince strode out onstage at the Staples Center Sunday like he owned the place. And then he offered up this magnificent side-eye reaction to the Grammys crowd.

Prince's dual-medium-conquering work of art Purple Rain hit theaters just over 30 years ago, on July 27, 1984. The soundtrack had been released June 25, and the album landed at no. 1 on the Billboard charts on August 4 of the same year.

It's been 30 years since Prince – in the infamous words/lyrics of Kanye West – was "on Apollonia," and on Saturday night, the duo marked the occasion with a private concert at Paisley Park, Prince's Minneapolis compound.
In her first visit to the mansion/studio space, Prince's 1980s muse had a front-row seat as her former onscreen paramour celebrated the 30th anniversary of both the album and the film Purple Rain with an eight-song set.
