His gift is imparting that delight to the audience, which begins to explain why Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is enjoyable in spite of its shortcomings. But the fact that Shadows is better than its predecessor? Well, there are a host of reasons for that.

Let's start with the plot. Gone is the fake hocus pocus of Sherlock's last case – something about a flim-flam man taking over a snooty cult in an effort to destroy Parliament. No, this one is about a flim-flam man bombing select targets in Europe in an effort to start a world war. (WWI ignites a mere two decades after the film is set.)

Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth hosted an intimate, private wedding over the weekend – and their guest list read like a who's who of Hollywood.

It comes as no surprise, perhaps, that an Academy Award winner and top Hollywood agent would have a star-studded social circle, but like any other guest list there's a story behind how the folks who attended the nuptials landed an invite.

Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan
The Iron Man star relies on a super agent to help navigate his career: Toth himself! While the groom is pals with the Downey Jr., Witherspoon also has a friendship with the actor and even had him and his wife up to her Ojai, Calif., estate in 2008 where they went hiking.

Who Should Play Jennifer Lawrence's Mentor in The Hunger Games?

Let the games begin: After it was announced that Jennifer Lawrence – who received an Oscar nod for her rugged role in Winter's Bone this year – would once again rough it onscreen in the film adaptation of The Hunger Games, fans of the trilogy are abuzz about who will join her on the big screen.

As Lawrence, 20, prepares to flex her leading lady chops in the role of Katniss Everdeen, the feisty, dark-haired heroine in author Suzanne Collins's dystopian society, there are two other major roles up for grabs: Peeta Mellark, her love interest, who (mostly) stays by her side during the annual life-or-death Hunger Games, and Haymitch Abernathy, a Hunger Games champion with thick skin and an alcohol addiction – tokens of his survival.

With Hunter Parrish as the frontrunners to fill Peeta's shoes, who should step up for the role of Haymitch?

What's Next for Dragon Tattoo Star Noomi Rapace?

Originally posted 11/07/2010 08:00PM

When Noomi Rapace won the role of the gutsy Lisbeth Salander in Stieg Larsson's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo films, she knew it would change her life. But not quite the way she expected.

"I thought everyone would hate me!" says Rapace, 30, who transformed herself into an androgynous, punky, chain-smoking computer hacker for the three Swedish movies. "The readers of the books have such a strong relationship with her as a character, I thought they'd never accept what I did with Lisbeth. It felt like a suicide mission to accept the role."

To prepare, Rapace trained kick-boxing four times a week for seven months, dieted, got a motorcycle license, cut her hair and pierced herself a total of six times.

Her 7-year-old son – with Swedish actor Ola Rapace – was at first hesitant about his mom's new look.  "For the first movie, he asked me, 'Mom, why do you want to look like a teenage boy?'" she says. "For the last movie, I shaved my head on both sides like a Mohawk. I brought him with me when I did it, because I didn't want to come home and look like Edward Scissorhands and scare him! He sat there and looked at me and said, 'Mom, why are you doing this?'  After a while, he said, 'I think it looks good! I want a hairdo like that, too!' That's when I said, 'Stop!'"

Robert Downey Jr.'s new movie is called Due Date. In it he plays a nervous expectant father, and it is due in theaters Nov. 5. But in real life, the two-time Oscar nominee has another due date in mind – when he expects to welcome a new little Downey into his life.

"I think I will be wrist-deep in doo-doo within 18 months. I'm calling it right here," Downey, 45, tells Playboy in its November issue.

Though it's not exactly clear when the interview took place and the countdown officially began, Downey and his wife Susan still have time to prepare.
