After meeting her fiancé Roberto Martinez on The Bachelorette last year, Ali Fedotowsky says she was ready to wed – and right away.
But after an 18-month engagement, the pair called it quits on Nov. 21 – and now, Fedotowsky is speaking out about what went wrong.
"I wouldn't be being truthful if I said this came out of nowhere," a tearful Fedotowsky, 27, tells PEOPLE for its new issue, on newsstands Friday.
"We definitely had been having problems. But I had always believed that we could work it out."

Sorry, Bachelorette fans: there will officially be no wedding for Ali and Roberto.
"Ali Fedotowsky and Roberto Martinez have ended their relationship," the couple's rep tells PEOPLE. "As they go through this difficult time, we ask that you respect the couple's privacy."
The duo's romance unfolded in 2010 on season 6 of the reality show, culminating with a romantic seaside proposal on the season finale.
In October, Fedotowsky downplayed rumors that their relationship was on the rocks, telling PEOPLE there were other reasons for putting their wedding plans on hold.

Ali Fedotowsky is well aware of the fact that it's been more than a year since viewers witnessed her engagement to Roberto Martinez on The Bachelorette season 6 finale.
So when is the wedding? Not anytime soon, Fedotowsky tells PEOPLE.
"We're still engaged; we're still living together," Fedotowsky, 27, says. "We just don't feel the need to walk down the aisle right now."
Despite speculation that their union is on the rocks, Fedotowsky says the couple is doing just fine, and that the pressure to set a wedding date following their televised courtship and engagement overwhelmed them. Another complication: difficulty in scheduling a televised wedding.

Former Bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky has had to put her wedding plans with fiancé Roberto Martinez on hold while she recovers from an injury to her femur, for which she underwent surgery in July.
"We had a date set, and that date has now passed," the reality starlet, 26, told PEOPLE on Tuesday. "The decision to postpone [the wedding] was very difficult. I definitely shed some tears."
"But I want to walk down the aisle," she said, "I don't want to limp down the aisle."
Instead, the couple spent their would-be wedding day together.

The Bachelorette's Ali Fedotowsky and Roberto Martinez celebrated their one-year engagement anniversary last week by reliving some of the special moments from their televised romance.
The duo, who now live in San Diego, took a weeklong trip to the tropical paradise of Bora Bora, where Martinez popped the question to Fedotowsky on the season finale of The Bachelorette.
"We made it to the one year mark!" Fedotowsky proudly told PEOPLE. "The engagement took place last year on May 8th, and when Roberto proposed it was so beautiful. It was great to go back and reflect on the year because it was very special."

A romantic ride turned scary for The Bachelorette's Ali Fedotowsky on Sunday, when her kayak flipped over and she ended up in the hospital.
"Ali and Roberto had a little mishap when their kayak capsized this weekend," her rep tells PEOPLE. "Ali was taken to the hospital and had five staples put in her head."
The reality star, who is planning a wedding to The Bachelorette winner Roberto Martinez, Tweeted Sunday that she was going kayaking in La Jolla, Calif.
