Rocco Banned from His Own Restaurant

Given the tensions between Rocco DiSpirito and the owners of his restaurant Rocco's, it took a New York judge to give the TV chef permission to enter the restaurant that bears his name – so he could take photos of himself for a cookbook to be published this summer, the Associated Press reports.

INJURED: "American Idol" judge Paula Abdul, 40, is recovering from having the infected nail on her right thumb removed at L.A.'s Cedars Sinai Medical Center after a manicure went awry, PEOPLE reports. "I almost lost my thumb," she said, adding that she couldn't button her pants.

CAST: Actress Tori Spelling, 31, former resident of "Beverly Hills, 90210," has joined the cast of UPN's comedy pilot "Me, Me, Me," about two good-looking New York women who shamelessly climb the social ladder, says the Hollywood Reporter. Her costar will be Ayda Field. Last seen in the Hallmark Channel's "A Carol Christmas" and the WB's comedy "The Help," Spelling is next due to appear in the movie "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover."

Things haven't been going well lately for celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito, star of NBC's "The Restaurant." His flagship restaurant Union Pacific lost a star in its ratings and restaurant magnate Jeffrey Chodorow is suing him for mismanagement. And now on top of it all, DiSpirito has lost his girlfriend.

NEWS BRIEFS: Jude Law's Inspiration

INSPIRED: As a boy, Jude Law dreamed of an acting career after watching performances of Shakespeare's "Othello" at the Young Vic Theatre in London. Now that the theater is in disrepair, Law has offered to donate to a drive to renovate the space, the Associated Press reports. The theater was built in 1970 and was originally intended as a temporary structure. Law, 31, did not divulge the size of his contribution, but the total amount needed is reportedly $22.5 million. Law, meanwhile, is up for a Best Actor Academy Award on Feb. 29 for his performance in "Cold Mountain."
