Romeo: Dad Is Proud Despite Dancing Elimination

Father knows best?

Romeo, the latest contestant eliminated on Dancing with the Stars, may have told the audience he was "surprised" about his dismissal at the end of Tuesday's show but it seems someone very close to him was not.

"My dad called me at six o'clock this morning," Romeo, 21, told reporters Tuesday night. "I was expecting to sleep until at least 10. He called me and gave me a speech about how proud of me he is no matter what the outcome of tonight is."

The phone call had Romeo wondering if his dad knew something he didn't. "[He said], 'You're a winner. Nobody expected you to come this far,' " Romeo said. "And I was like, 'Do you know that I'm going home or something?' I was like, 'Dad, save your speech for a few more weeks from now.' "

The Karate Kid entered Tuesday night's Dancing with the Stars elimination show with the week's lowest score, his performance hampered by a bad knee.

But Romeo was also at risk due to low scores – with no injury to blame.

Romeo & Chelsie Hightower: Why We Kissed on the Lips

They could have saved the smooching for after the judging – when they received their first perfect 10 of the season. But Romeo went in for a liplock with his Dancing with the Stars partner Chelsie Hightower right after completing their waltz Monday night.

"What I said tonight, basically, was, 'If you want to [kiss me], go ahead,' " Hightower told PEOPLE after the show. "You can do it on the cheek, forehead or lips – but you don't want to plan it too much."

The pair, who danced to "My Heart Will Go On" from Titanic, said the kiss added to the drama and intensity of the moment.
