After watching as the spark slowly faded from his eyes and listening as his voice finally fell silent, the family of Ronald Reagan gathered at his house in Bel Air in the last days of May. The former President, said his doctors, now had pneumonia in addition to his Alzheimer's. A matter of days, they said, maybe a week.

Friday has been declared a national day of mourning for President Ronald Reagan, as plans are being made for a state funeral that day. President George W. Bush is expected to speak at the ceremony, to be held at Washington, D.C.'s National Cathedral.
