Katy Perry Signs Off on Divorce with a Smile

Somber occasion or not, nothing can keep Katy Perry from smiling.
The pop star often includes a smiley face with her signature, and sure enough, she added one when she signed the papers this week in her divorce from Russell Brand.
She might not have been feeling too joyful at that particular moment, but it's another example of the sunny disposition that's made the California girl a megastar the world over.
Perry, 27, and Brand, 36, reached a final divorce settlement this week, covering distribution of their property and all other issues.

Apparently, there won't be any fireworks in this divorce.
Katy Perry and Russell Brand have reached a "comprehensive written settlement of all issues," according to a filing Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court.
Perry even signed the papers with her usual happy autograph – with a smiley face in her last name.
With no children at issue, the agreement covers distribution of their property, Perry's papers say, and she asks that the court not be involved in awarding spousal support to Brand.
Perry, 27, also seeks to legally restore her maiden name to Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson.

Russell Brand is entitled to a large amount of Katy Perry's money in his divorce, but he will not ask for any cash from his higher-earning estranged wife, a source confirms to PEOPLE.
Brand, 36, who married Perry, 27, in October 2010 and filed for divorce this past December, could lay claim to tens of millions of dollars from Perry – half of what she earned during the time they were married. The source says that the couple did not sign a prenuptial agreement.
According to TMZ.com, which first reported the story, Brand's lawyers filed final divorce papers on Tuesday, and the divorce is expected to be finalized June 30 after the mandatory six-month waiting period.

Katy Perry performed her first U.S. concert since splitting from hubby Russell Brand in Indianapolis, Ind., Saturday night, delivering a party-starting nine-song set for guests at the DIRECTV Super Saturday Night Hosted by Mark Cuban and Peyton Manning.
And the pop star seemed to have Super Bowl fever: Sporting a glittery, football-themed top and high-cut grey spandex shorts, Perry kicked off the show at 11:45 p.m. by bursting through a banner emblazoned with her name, just like a hometown gridiron hero.

Back in the United States to see friends and support a charity, Katy Perry strolled down a red carpet for the first time since her split with Russell Brand.
The singer rocked her blue hair and donned a cocktail dress with metal studs at the overnight Friday event for Givelove.org, which provides sustainable low-income solutions Haiti earthquake victims.
Markus Molinari, a designer for J. Molinari Jewelry, told PEOPLE that Perry was doing "amazing" and she was in town to support his cause because "that's what friends do."

Barely two weeks after filing for divorce from Katy Perry, his wife of 14 months, Russell Brand appeared to back in the business of being amusing – promoting his new FX show Strangely Uplifting and sidestepping as best he could any questions about his personal life.
Asked how he's doing, Brand, speaking to TV writers in Pasadena, Calif., replied, "Quite well, thank you. Are you asking because of recent events? You are making the mistake of seeing time as linear. The brilliant American author Kurt Vonnegut, he'll tell you that if you imagine reality as experienced simultaneously, events become redundant."
Brand, 36, said the goal of Strangely Uplifting, which is set to debut in April and consists of his discussing current events with a small audience, was to make people laugh and be happy.
Is he happy right now? With a smile, he said, "Yes, I am."

Two weeks after Russell Brand filed for divorce from Katy Perry, the newly solo singer is feeling blue – at least when it comes to her hair.
Perry, 27, has apparently reverted to her 2010 look, sporting bright blue hair as she posed with a fan Thursday in Santa Barbara, where she's filming an Adidas commercial.
Though the pop star shied away from the People's Choice Awards earlier this week (she still came up a big winner), she appeared to be in good spirits interacting with her admirer.

Russell Brand Removes Wedding Ring for Video Pre-Split from Katy Perry

The show must go on – and, apparently, the ring must come off.
And, as he was set to perform on an U.S. college tour, Russell Brand – who in December filed for divorce from his wife of 14 months, Katy Perry – made a video display of removing his wedding band.
"I'm going to place this somewhere very, very safe for the next week," says the actor-comedian, 36, as he holds up his hand in front of the camera and slips off the ring sometime in November.
Making no reference to his marriage, Brand does admit on camera that he knows very little about the American college scene – and what he has learned about from fraternities he got from Animal House.
All seemed well at home that day, though, as Perry Tweeted her support: "My fowl (sic) mouthed Hubby @rustyrockets is playing a few mid-west/east-coast shows starting tonight onwards! SUPPORT!"

Two days before the "Teenage Dream" singer's highly anticipated appearance at the People's Choice Awards, she Tweeted, "Unfortunately I will not be able to attend."

Katy Perry has something to say – and she doesn't need anyone to say it for her.
"Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me. Not a blog, magazine, 'close sources' or my family," the singer, whose husband Russell Brand filed for divorce on Dec. 30, said on Twitter Saturday.
Perry, 27, didn't only address rumors surrounding her split from Brand, who cited irreconcilable differences in the divorce. She also thanked supporters for their concern and well-wishes during a difficult time.
"I am so grateful for all the love and support I've had from people around the world," she Tweeted. "You guys have made my heart happy again."
