Cannes Film Festival Kicks Off with Great Gatsby, Emma Watson & More Stars Expected This Week

Under unseasonably cloudy skies and dodging a few raindrops, Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire kicked off the 66th Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday just hours before walking the red carpet for their blockbuster film The Great Gatsby, which opened the star-studded 12-day extravaganza of movies and parties on the French Riviera.
"Every time I go to Cannes it feels like I'm entering the helicopter scene in La Dolce Vita; it's an insane experience," said DiCaprio, who posed for photos on the fabled Croisette next to his Gatsby costars.
Emma Watson, who stars in Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring, premiering Thursday, was spotted among the early celebrity arrivals at Nice International Airport on Tuesday – along with Paris Hilton, Cannes jury member Nicole Kidman and British singer Florence Welch.

Ryan Gosling Fights to End Cow Dehorning

We can now add cows to Ryan Gosling's fan club!
In conjunction with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the actor penned a letter to the National Milk Producers Federation asking them to bring an end to a practice known as dehorning, in which cows' horns are removed by being burned off, gouged out or chopped off.
"There is absolutely no reason – and no excuse – for the cruel, unnecessary practice of dehorning to continue," Gosling, 32, writes, advocating for the breeding of naturally hornless cows. "Please do the right thing and take action today."

Last fall, officials at the Texas School for the Deaf in Austin hoped to entice Ryan Gosling to attend a charity fundraiser by posting an open invitation in the form of the flirty "Hey Girl" Internet meme that riffs on his don't-you-wish-he-was-your-hipster-boyfriend reputation.
The day of the event, Gosling shocked organizers by turning up – with Rooney Mara and Michael Fassbender, his costars in the untitled Terrence Malick film shooting in town.
Gosling happily mingled, took photos with a long line of excited parents and kids, and at one point, he "paid $50 for a $1 glow-in-the-dark cotton candy," says Anne Adams, executive director of the school's foundation. "He insisted on learning the sign for please and thank you so he could properly show his appreciation to the child. He deserves every one of those 'hey girls!' "

A few weeks ago, my wife and I watched Crazy Stupid Love (I know, I know, we're a little late to the party). In one scene, Ryan Gosling seduces Emma Stone by taking his shirt off.
I turned to my wife to see her reaction. She was beet red and had her jaw wide open. When I asked if she enjoyed the movie, she uttered, "Ryan Gosling really was … fit looking."
(I worked out twice as hard the subsequent day, by the way.)
The fact is, Ryan got in amazing shape for the film. He has become part of a long list of leading men who have exercised and dieted to make their on-screen performance more impactful.

Justin Bieber is a distant cousin of Ryan Gosling, Céline Dion and Avril Lavigne, genealogists at Ancestry.com said Thursday – with their family links dating back to the early settlers of Canada's Quebec province.
Bieber and Gosling are 11th cousins once removed; he and and Dion are 10th cousins three times removed; and he and Lavigne are 12th cousins.
