Ryan Gosling already moonlights as a deejay – and now the actor is taking another step toward a music career. He's releasing an album.

Just don't expect him to go pop.

The actor and his friend Zach Shields will release their debut album on Oct. 6, under the name Dead Man's Bones, the music site Pitchfork Media reports. The self-titled disc will come out on indie label Anti Records, and feature contributions from the Silverlake Conservatory Children's Choir, an L.A.-based children's chorus. A concept record of sorts, Dead Man's Bones took about two years to complete, Gosling told Pitchfork in January.

Watch out Samantha Ronson, there are new celebrity deejays in town!

While some already make their living in rock bands, now many more musicians and actors are stepping behind the turntables (or iPods), and moonlighting as deejays at the hottest clubs and parties. Here's everything you need to know about some of the most notable:

Ryan Gosling

Signature Sound: Favorites from the '50s, '60s, '80s, indie rock and old-fashioned rock 'n' roll – anything from the Andrew Sisters to Bruce Springsteen to Edwin Collins. Gosling occasionally takes requests but he really just plays his favorites.
The Venue: Bardot Hollywood. He has a regular slot there Thursday nights.
Special Guests: Liv Tyler, Kate Hudson and Mick Jagger have caught Gosling's set.
Time to (Break)Dance: He draws a crowd – and hooks them! Gosling has been known to rile up clubgoers by positioning a spotlight on the dance floor. He also mingles, and people even breakdance to his music – including his deejay partner and best bud Zach Shields.

While former couple Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling made headlines this summer after a little bit of PDA in Toronto, a source tells PEOPLE the two actors are both "openly single" right now.

Gosling "is still close to McAdams's family and he still speaks to Rachel, but they are both openly single," the source says. "He still loves Rachel and Rachel still loves him, but the timing is off and they can't make each other happy right now."

The two actors are staying busy during their time apart. McAdams, 32, is currently in London filming Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. In the film, she plays Irene Adler, one of the Holmes series’ most famous female characters.

Ryan Gosling made his deejay debut Tuesday night at Green Door lounge in Hollywood, with a surprising guest in the crowd – his ex-girlfriend Rachel McAdams.

Arriving at 9 p.m., the actor settled into what is said to be a weekly gig at the lounge's Tuesday jazz night. McAdams arrived later "supporting Ryan," says a Gosling pal.

"They talked when he was away from the deejay stand," says the friend. "They really looked like good pals. He seemed happy to see her."

For Gosling, deejaying is "a pretty new thing for him," says the friend. "He's been messing around. He's really into music, and he's a fan of the night – and here he is."
