The viral video "KONY 2012" has been making the rounds on social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook, and has drawn commentary and support from celebrities. But what's the story behind the 30-minute clip aimed at ousting Joseph Kony from hiding and power? Here are five things you should know about KONY 2012:
1. Who is Joseph Kony?
Joseph Kony, the target of the video, is the leader of the Ugandan rebel army known as the "Lord's Resistance Army" (LRA). He is the first name on the list of criminals sought by the International Criminal Court. Kony is behind the abduction of more than 30,000 children over the past 26 years, who have been forced to work as slaves and/or sex workers. Some of the children have been made to mutilate others and kill their own parents and families.

Just like Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling's fairytale Disneyland dates, working together on The Place Beyond the Pines was also a fantasy come true for the happy couple.
"He's your dream costar," Mendes, 37, tells Marie Claire in its March issue. "I have never felt so creatively satisfied on a film. He's amazing."
But that's about as much as the notably private actress would reveal about Gosling, 31, who Mendes was first photographed holding hands with in September.

The year's Film Independent Spirit Awards promises plenty of star wattage: nominee Jessica Chastain and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who stars in the best feature nominee, 50/50, will present at the show.
The ceremony, held the day before the Academy Awards in a tent on the beach in Santa Monica, Calif., will also include appearances by Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Banks and Ewan McGregor, who will also present awards on the show.
Hosted by Seth Rogen, the Film Independent Spirit Awards will also air on IFC on Feb. 25 (10 p.m.).
Among this year's crop of nominees: Michelle Williams, who also scored an Oscar nomination for My Week with Marilyn, for best female lead; and Ryan Gosling, who some say was snubbed at the Oscars, is up for best male lead for Drive.
Chastain, meanwhile, is up for best supporting female for Take Shelter.
Best feature nominees include: 50/50, Beginners, Drive, Take Shelter, The Artist and The Descendants.

Veteran movie stars Brad Pitt and George Clooney made the cut. So did funny girl Melissa McCarthy, along with fresher faces like Rooney Mara and Jean Dujardin. But, as usual, not everyone was recognized by the Academy Awards when the nominations were announced Tuesday morning.
In fact, some leading men who seemed a shoo-in for a gold statue were snubbed from the Best Actor category: Michael Fassbender, Ryan Gosling and Leonardo DiCaprio.

They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, but Eva Mendes is hoping it's through his dog!
The actress was spotted walking beau Ryan Gosling's much-beloved mutt, George, Saturday in Beverly Hills, presumably while the actor remains out of the country shooting his latest project in Thailand.
While this is the first time she's been spotted with George, Gosling has already gotten to know Mendes's furry friend, Belgian Malinois Hugo. The dog rode shotgun with the couple while they ran errands in Hollywood in October, and judging from his genial greeting, Hugo approves!

So, where was Ryan Gosling on Sunday night? Oh, just trying to make ends meet.
That's according to The Descendents star George Clooney, who gave some hints backstage about the whereabouts of the most high-profile no-show at Sunday's Golden Globes.
He "is in Thailand or something," the best-actor winner, 50, said of his category rival, 31. "And you know what you do in Thailand."

The hunk parade of Bradley, Brad and George scheduled for Sunday night's Golden Globes show will be missing one hunk: Ryan Gosling.
Why? The uber-hot leading man – who also happens to be a double nominee, for the comedy Crazy, Stupid Love and the drama Ides of March – has a previous commitment.
His rep tells PEOPLE that "he's working out of the country."

Some at Sunday's Golden Globe Awards may be competing over more than just their acting chops.
The red carpet and the ceremony itself sould be sizzling, with Bradley Cooper, PEOPLE's 2011 Sexiest Man Alive, scheduled to present.
The hunk quotient will also be filled by previous winners of the honor, George Clooney and Brad Pitt, who are also competing in the best actor category.
Clooney, a multiple nominee for The Descendants (best actor) and The Ides of March (best director, best screenplay), is also a presenter.
