Whether she's telling off a police officer ("You're about to find out who I am!") or her husband ("I'm allowed to say anything I want to say!"), the dashboard footage from Reese Witherspoon's April 19 arrest shows off a side of the actress that's, well, not exactly her famous good-girl image.
And boy, is she ever sorry. "She really messed up," says a source. "And she knows it."
At the same time, several people who know her tell PEOPLE in this week's issue that the Nashville-bred star has a feisty streak that is rarely glimpsed in public.

They're one big happy family – at least as far as soccer is concerned.
On Saturday, Reese Witherspoon and her husband Jim Toth – who welcomed their first child together in September – were joined by her ex husband (and father of her two older kids) Ryan Phillippe on the sidelines of their son Deacon's soccer game.
"Jim and Ryan seemed to get along great," an observer tells PEOPLE of Witherspoon's current and former husbands. "They were both very involved in the game and kept cheering and clapping. Including Reese, they all seemed to have fun watching Deacon play."
From the looks of things, all three parents took an active role in being there for the 9-year-old budding athlete, who at one point left the field after he fell on his already-injured wrist.

David Arquette's latest project is finally about to come full circle.
The Scream star was recently spotted overseeing the completion of his new nightclub, Bootsy Bellows, which is set for a June 29 grand opening in West Hollywood.
"David looked really good and looked like he was in good health," a source tells PEOPLE of the actor, who was seen standing in the new venue's doorway. "He didn't look as skinny as before. He looked like he'd put on a few healthy pounds."
Adds the insider, "At one point, a random person walked by and yelled, 'Lookin' good,' at David."
Of the venue, also co-owned by h.wood group's John Terzian, the source describes it as having "a funky vibe inside."
Taking over the space of former hotspot Trousdale, the spot was frequented by Ryan Phillippe, Ashley Greene, Derek Hough and stars of The Hills.

It was a busy night at the STK L.A. Anniversary party in West Hollywood on Wednesday, but Ryan Phillippe managed to slip inside relatively unnoticed with gal pal Paulina Slagter.
"Ryan drove in through the garage to avoid paparazzi, and he was brought into the restaurant through the kitchen," a source tells PEOPLE. "He and Paulina were very cute and held hands at their private table, tucked away from the rest of the crowd."
Slagter, who is reportedly still in college, and Phillippe, took in the sounds of Bibi McGill, the touring lead guitarist for Beyoncé, who did a few special performances at the ONE Group's trendy eatery throughout the night, to honor its four years in existence.
David Spade, Taryn Manning and a Kendra Wilkinson-less Hank Baskett were also in tow for the festive evening.
"Hank left in his Cadillac with a guy pal," an onlooker says. "When asked where Kendra was by a random partygoer, he said she was with her mom in San Diego. He couldn't have been nicer to fans who approached him."

Oprah Winfrey is not the only big star staying up late after the Oscars next Sunday. PEOPLE has learned that there are even more celebrities joining Jimmy Kimmel's seventh post-Oscar special!
Jessica Biel, new dad (again) Jason Bateman, JJ Abrams, Steven Tyler, Tyler Perry, Edward Norton, Colin Farrell and Ryan Philippe are on board for the show's big bit "Movie the Movie."
Given the show's history, it's promising – even if Samuel L. Jackson has choice words for those potentially involved (ABC previously announced Meryl Streep, George Clooney and Tom Hanks.) Check out a very bleeped teaser here: Moviethemovie.com.
It should come as no surprise that the skit will push the envelope. Kimmel's annual special has produced LOL-worthy comedy pieces in the past including "F*@#ing Ben Affleck," "Handsome Men's Club," "Hottie Body Hump Club" and "Tom Hanks's Toddlers in Tiaras".
