Heart disease, not drugs, was the major cause of Sage Stallone's untimely death earlier this summer at age 36, the Los Angeles County coroner announced Thursday.
After conducting an autopsy as well as a full toxicology screen, the coroner cited atherosclerotic coronary artery disease as the cause of death, and said that the drug test was negative except for a small, "sub-therapeutic" level of hydrocodone, more commonly known as Vicodin.
The department's full report is expected next week.

Sylvester Stallone says he is coping with his son's death the best way he knows how: by moving on with his life.
Stallone, appearing on Tuesday's Good Morning America to promote his new movie The Expendables 2, opened up about his son Sage's death for the first time since the 36-year-old's body was found in Los Angeles last month.
"It's very, very tough," said Stallone. "It's a horrible situation, but time hopefully will heal, and you try to get through it, but it's just something that's a reality of life."

In 1976, Sylvester Stallone proudly brought the world both his biggest movie character and his first-born son.
Problem was, Sage Stallone found it hard to reconcile himself with his father's most enduring creation, Rocky Balboa.
Since Sage's untimely July 13 death of unknown causes his friends have come forward to claim that the 36-year-old had a prescription drug problem – and a complicated relationship with his famous father.
The friends say Sage appreciated that his father was a hugely successful moviemaker who gave him a house in the Hollywood Hills and enough money that he didn't have to work. But Sage – who chain-smoked and seemed to subsist on little more than Doritos and Mountain Dew – didn't like the ageless, muscle-bound action heroes embodied by Sylvester Stallone.

Sage Stallone was laid to rest Saturday after a funeral at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Los Angeles.
The 36-year-old son of Sylvester Stallone was found dead in his San Fernando Valley home July 13.
Sage, who acted with his father in 1990's Rocky V and 1996's Daylight, also wrote and directed the 2006 short film Vic.

Life was not easy for Sage Moonblood Stallone, particularly as a child, when he had little connection with his busy Hollywood superstar father.
"I was an easygoing guy, and school was pretty much people trying to challenge me to a fight, y'know, saying, 'Rambo! Rocky!' " Sage, who died unexpectedly last week at age 36, told PEOPLE in 1996, when he was 20.
It galled him because his father, Sylvester Stallone, who had become famous playing a fictional boxer, wasn't often in his son's corner due to his demanding career. So, when Sage got the chance to play opposite his dad as Rocky Balboa Jr. in 1990's Rocky V, it was a painful as well as cathartic experience.

While reports have surfaced that Sage Moonblood Stallone may have been dead for several days before his body was discovered in his Hollywood Hills home Friday, his attorney and longtime friend George Braunstein dismisses such a suggestion – and points to the fact that photos of him at home were posted to Stallone's Facebook page only 17 hours before he was found.
In addition, Braunstein tells PEOPLE, although Stallone smoked cigarettes and consumed candy and soda, the 36-year-old never exhibited any signs of drug use or addiction.

They were father and son in the movies, too.
Sage Moonblood Stallone, who was found dead Friday at age 36, acted with his father Sylvester in one of the elder Stallone's biggest franchises – the Rocky series – playing Rocky Balboa Jr. in Rocky V.
Sage, who was 14 when the movie was released in 1990, was "agreeably natural in some scenes, improbable in others," New York Times critic Janet Maslin wrote in her review at the time.
