Awards-wise, the 2014 Emmys played out exactly the way most people would have predicted – lots of trophies for Breaking Bad and Modern Family and assorted other laurels for veteran Emmy favorites.
Thankfully, though, we had the acceptance speeches to inject a hint of surprise into the proceedings.

It's apparently difficult for powerful women in Hollywood to find husbands, so it looks like they're taking matters into their own hands.
At least, that was the case on Wednesday's Chelsea Lately, when Sarah Silverman got down on one knee before host Chelsea Handler.

When it came to the winners, there wasn't much controversy for the American Music Awards, which handed out trophies to Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake and Macklemore.
But as anyone watching the show will tell you, the actual awards ended up taking a backseat to the night's many performers, who incited Twitter trends and plenty of head-scratching as the evening wore on.
In case you were watching The Walking Dead or Sunday Night Football, here's what had us asking, "What just happened?"

For the Comedy Central roast of James Franco, the writer/actor/director/producer was braced for tasteless jokes at his expense. What he didn't know was that all the roasters were fair game, too.
"I've never watched one of these roasts. I chose not to research this so I had no idea that they were going to be roasting each other [too]. I thought I'd be sitting here for two hours bearing the brunt of it so it was a huge relief," Franco said. "I had a great time. Everybody was awesome, solid."
Before it airs Monday on Comedy Central (10 p.m. ET), we've selected some of the best zingers and put-downs to add some sizzle to your Labor Day.

Matt Damon more than made up for his decade of being bumped from Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Declaring "I am in command of this ship," Damon not only hijacked the show Thursday night, but he brought along a little big-name help.
Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Kidman, Demi Moore, Amy Adams, Sally Field, Robert De Niro, Don Cheadle, John Krasinski and Oprah Winfrey all played a part.
Andy Garcia sat in as sidekick. Sheryl Crow led the band.
And where was Kimmel? Oh, he was there, all right: gagged and tied on the back of the set, as Damon took over.

He may be 17-years-old, but Sarah Silverman's elderly pooch, Duck, is still bounding with energy – but only for one hour each day.
"He needs at least 23 hours of sleep a day, or else he's not himself," the comedian told PEOPLE at the GQ Men of the Year Party in Los Angeles last month. "But then in that one hour [that he's awake], he's so peppy it's crazy. We take walks, watch TV, we cuddle."

Laughter and tears – the world of comedy has united in grief as they remember one of their funniest colleagues, Patrice O'Neal, who died Monday at age 41.
"RIP Patrice O'Neal. You made us laugh til we cried," Sarah Silverman wrote on Twitter, one of many fellow comedians to pay tribute publicly to O'Neal.
"One of my favourite stand up comedians. So sad. RIP," wrote Ricky Gervais.
"I started my career w/ Patrice O'Neal," wrote Dane Cook, who posted a photo of himself and O'Neal to Twitter. "He was 1 of the best ever. Fond memories of road gigs, late night eats & laughs."
