If anyone would have a perspective on marriage it would be Robin Wright Penn, whose union with husband Sean Penn has been one long roller-coaster ride.

"All marriages have their phases," Wright Penn, 43, tells the British magazine :Psychologies" for its July issue. "It's life. We go through it, if we're married long enough. If you're lucky you grow and you work it out."

The actress had stated her observations after her divorce from Sean Penn was called off last year. Since then, Penn, also 48, again filed legal separation papers in April, only to rescind them soon afterwards.

Sayonara Stooges. Hello kids.

Sean Penn is going on an indefinite hiatus from acting to spend time with his family, specifically his two teenage children, daughter Dylan, 18, and son Hopper, 15.

The time off comes as a surprise, especially to the producers of what was to be his next two films, the Mafia-thriller Cartel, and the hotly-anticipated Three Stooges, where Penn was to portray curly-haired dimwit Larry opposite Jim Carrey's Curly and Benicio Del Toro's Moe.

But Penn has greater priorities than taking one across the kisser. "Right now Sean wants to focus on being with his kids," a source close to Penn tells PEOPLE.

As news filtered around the world that her on-again, off-again split from Sean Penn was indeed off again, Robin Wright Penn partied in the south of France.

Attending the annual amfAR gala at the Hotel du Cap, along the coast from the Cannes Film Festival, the 43-year-old joined a blonde pal Thursday night and was clearly in good spirits, smoking cigarettes, dancing and drinking Moët et Chandon champagne.

The actress, who is a juror at the prestigious festival, greeted celebrity pals such as Eli Roth and designer's niece Roberta Armani with hugs and kisses.

Are Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn reconciling again?

The Oscar-winning actor filed a request Tuesday to dismiss his legal separation case, Marin County, Calif., court records show.

"This appears to imply that they're reconciling again," says L.A. divorce lawyer Lynn Soodik, who is not involved with the case. "It's unlikely Sean Penn would request a dismissal for any other reason."

Sean Penn Seeks Statewide Harvey Milk Day

Originally posted 03/03/2009 05:30PM

Fresh from his Best Actor Oscar win for portraying slain gay-rights leader Harvey Milk, Sean Penn joined politicians and activists in California on Tuesday to push for a day to honor the man he portrayed in Milk.

Harvey Milk Day on May 22 would not be a holiday, but teachers would recall how the San Francisco supervisor fought for equal rights before his assassination more than 30 years ago.

"It is important that we remember Harvey Milk for his spirit, his courage and his activism," Penn, dressed in black, told reporters gathered in San Francisco's Tosca Café, which shares the name of Milk's favorite opera. "Harvey taught us the importance of standing up for what you believe in. He showed us the value of never giving up, and he proved that action creates change."

Slumdog Millionaire Sweeps Oscar Awards

An underdog movie about a little guy overcoming life's enormous obstacles swept the Oscars Sunday night, as Slumdog Millionaire racked up eight Academy Awards, including those for Best Picture and for its Director, Danny Boyle.

But it was not underdog Mickey Rourke (for The Wrestler) who took the Best Actor Oscar. That honor went to Sean Penn, for Milk, in which he played 1970s gay activist Harvey Milk.

"I did not expect this, and I know how hard I make it to appreciate me, often," Penn said in his impassioned acceptance speech – in which he also acknowledged his fellow nominee, whose career had faded away in the '90s. "Mickey Rourke rises again," said Penn, "and he is my brother."

INSIDE STORY: Forces Behind Milk Reflect on 'Devastating Year' for Gay Rights

For the filmmakers behind Milk and the real-life activists portrayed in the Oscar-nominated film, the movie serves as a reminder of how the nation has changed – and how much they miss the slain gay politician.

Harvey Milk – played by Sean Penn in the film – was a San Francisco supervisor and California's first openly gay elected official. In the 1970s, he successfully led the charge against a proposition that would have disallowed gays and lesbians from teaching in California schools.

Three decades later, Proposition 8, a measure that revised the California constitution by defining marriage as being only between a man and a woman, was approved by voters in the recent election.

"They were able to win in a far more homophobic time, so why aren't we winning now?" asks Milk's Oscar-nominated screenwriter Dustin Lance Black. "This truly has been a devastating year for gay and lesbian people across the country."

Mickey Rourke's dogs may be left in the cold come Oscar night.

Rourke thanked "all his dogs" when he won the Golden Globe Award for best actor last month, saying, "Sometimes when a man's alone, that's all you got is your dog. And they've meant the world to me."

But on Feb. 22, the comeback king doesn't anticipate another shout-out to his beloved pooches.

"I'll probably be up there clapping for Sean Penn," Rourke told PEOPLE Monday at the 81st annual Oscar Nominees Luncheon, in Beverly Hills. "I don't think that far ahead."

Penn, who stars in Milk, is The Wrestler actor's main competition for the Best Actor Academy Award.
