Shelley Malil – who appeared alongside Steve Carell in The 40-Year-Old Virgin – will finally begin to pay for the scars ex-girlfriend Kendra Beebe lives with each day: On Thursday he was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility for parole, reports NBC San Diego.
Malil, 45, was convicted of attempted murder in September for stabbing his girlfriend more than 20 times.
"I stand before the defendant alive," Beebe testified. "Despite plunging a knife in me 23 times and trying to kill me, I am alive. Despite the wicked scars he left on my body, I am alive."

Kendra Beebe wept loudly as a jury convicted ex-boyfriend Shelley Malil of attempted murder for stabbing her multiple times – but the verdict only comes with some relief.
"Every day I look in the mirror and I see the scar on my chin and the scar on my neck," she said Thursday outside a Vista, Calif., courtroom, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. "I will live with this for the rest of my life."
Malil, 45, a comic actor who appeared in The 40 Year-Old Virgin, faces 16 years to life in prison for attacking Beebe, 38, with a steak knife. Beebe testified during the trial that the incident took place in August 2008, when Malil found her in the backyard with another man.

Shelley Malil, a comic actor featured in The 40-Year-Old Virgin, was convicted of attempted murder Thursday for stabbing his girlfriend more than 20 times.
The verdict was reached by a San Diego Superior Court jury of seven men and five women after a trial in Vista, Calif.
Malil, 45, testified in his own defense during the three week trial, claiming he knifed Kendra Beebe in her San Marcos, Calif., home in 2008 when he wrongly thought she was somebody else going after him in the dark.
The two met in 2007 on an online dating service, and they dated for a year in an on and off-again relationship that was, according to Beebe's testimony, volatile. During the trial, she said that Malil was jealous and possessive.
One day before the stabbing, the two also had an argument, witnesses testified, at a beach.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin's Shelley Malil put on a performance in his own trial.
The actor re-enacted how he stabbed his ex-girlfriend Kendra Beebe more than twenty times at her home in San Marcos, Calif., in what he calls a case of mistaken identity.
Malil, 45, slashed at the air quickly with the knife and said he swung his hands at "a hundred miles per hour" because he thought he was being attacked by Beebe's male friend, according to NBC San Diego.
"My head was down and I was poking and swinging as hard as I can, looking for space," Malil said. "Like empty space, I was tumbling, I kept running back into the fence and I kept moving with my arm, and I kept bouncing into things."

The 40-Year-Old Virgin actor Shelley Malil testified Thursday he stabbed his girlfriend 20 times when he wrongly thought that she was somebody else going after him in the dark.
"I'm sorry," Malil, 45, said in a Vista, Calif., courtroom. "I had no idea. I saw the pictures (of her wounds) for the first time, I was stunned. When I look at those pictures, I still can't believe the knife I was holding was responsible for all those injuries."
Taking the stand in his own defense, the actor insisted he never intended to kill or hurt Kendra Beebe, 38, at her San Diego County house one night in August 2008. But then "chaos" broke out, some of which he says he still can't remember clearly.
Malil, who played one of Steve Carell's electronics store coworkers in the movie, pleaded not guilty to charges of premeditated attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and residential burglary. He could get 21 years to life in prison if convicted. Beebe survived the attack and testified against him.

He's accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend Kendra Beebe more than 20 times with two different knives.
But as the second week of actor Shelley Malil's trial got underway Tuesday, a criminologist said DNA evidence on the steak knife allegedly used in the attack did not belong to the defendant or the victim, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Criminologist Lauren Sautkulis's testimony may lend credence to Malil's defense attorney's claims that his client did not use the steak knife in the alleged attack. The testimony, however, also suggested that the evidence doesn't necessarily prove that Malil did not use the knife, either.

Shelley Malil, an actor best known for playing an electronics-store clerk in The 40-Year-Old Virgin, calmly walked up to his ex-girlfriend Kendra Beebe in her backyard two years ago, leaned in as if to hug her, then stabbed her repeatedly, Beebe testified Tuesday in Malil's trial for attempted murder.
"I felt a primal, instinctual, animal fear," Beebe told a jury in Vista, Calif., reports the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Beebe said Malil had one hand behind his back as he approached. "He said, 'Kendra, Kendra, Kendra.' … I saw a flash of silver, and he goes bang, bang, bang," she said, showing the jury how he stabbed her in the torso three times.
