Hollie Cavanagh Bounces Back on American Idol
Originally posted 05/02/2012 10:30PM
The finish line is in sight – and as the final five contestants fight to be the winner of American Idol, the competition is fierce. Just like last week, the contestants brought top-notch performances, tackling classic songs from the 1960s and the British pop songbook.
No one seemed to fight harder than Hollie Cavanagh. After another appearance in the bottom last week, she delivered Wednesday with a high-energy version of Ike and Tina Turner's rock-soul rave-up "River Deep-Mountain High," which found her shimmying and shaking across the stage while wearing sky-high heels. For her second tune, she brought tender emotion to Leona Lewis's "Bleeding Love."
"It was a different type of Hollie out there tonight," Jennifer Lopez said of her first song. Randy Jackson also called her this season's "dark horse," adding that her rebound was perfect timing in the competition.

"Wow, what a night so far!" Randy Jackson shouted near the top of Wednesday's American Idol episode. "Who'd a thunk it?"
He was right. After several weeks of uneven performances, the contestants collectively brought their strongest showings in weeks for the two-hour show.
For the first half, the remaining six performed the music of Queen, whose members kicked off the night with an explosive medley of hits, including – fittingly for the unpredictable competition – "Another One Bites the Dust."

American Idol Does Soul Train
Originally posted 04/18/2012 10:30PM
Dick Clark, known as "America's Oldest Teenager," would have approved of American Idol's theme on Wednesday, which had contestants performing two songs: a No. 1 hit from 2000-2012, and a soul song from "back in the day."
But the theme was actually intended to honor another television pioneer: Soul Train creator Don Cornelius, who also passed away this year.
Ryan Seacrest recognized his hero, saying Idol wouldn't exist with Clark, who died of a massive heart attack Wednesday. But, he acknowledged, the show must go on: "The theme is based around a show similar to American Bandstand," he said, "Soul Train."
So how did the top seven contestants do? Keep reading for a full recap of Wednesday's show ...

American Idol's Deandre Brackensick Eliminated After '80s Night
Originally posted 04/05/2012 09:25PM
Skylar Laine had her best performance so far – according to Randy Jackson – on American Idol Wednesday when she sang her '80s selection "Wind Beneath My Wings" and performed a duet with her competitor Colton Dixon.
On Thursday, the pair – along with the rest of season 11's top 8 contestants – faced another elimination.
But first, there was some business to take care of: Ryan Seacrest checked in with Joshua Ledet, who said he wasn't feeling well, and Jennifer Lopez's sexy new video with boyfriend Casper Smart debuted.
Ryan asked, "Was there any special chemistry on the set of this video with you and any of the dancers?" Jennifer blushed, giggled and dodged the question.
