Inside Usher and Tameka's Marriage
Originally posted 06/15/2009 11:10AM
When R&B Star Usher filed for divorce from his wife, Tameka Foster Raymond, last week, few people in the singer's inner circle were shocked.
"No one I've spoken to is surprised," a source close to the couple tells PEOPLE. "As bad as this is gonna sound, it was never a matter of 'I wonder if they'll divorce,' but more like 'I wonder WHEN they'll divorce.'"
Several sources paint a picture of a troubled marriage that started unraveling even before the couple's wedding in September 2007.
"They peaked before they even got married," a friend of Tameka tells PEOPLE. "Right after it was over, they started to drift apart. [Usher] just wasn't ready to settle down, at least not with her."

Usher may have raced to his wife Tameka's side when she apparently suffered cardiac arrest in February in Brazil, but according to sources, that was a brief reunion in an otherwise troubled marriage.
In fact, Usher is expected to file for divorce early next week, according to an insider.
But a source who knows Tameka Foster Raymond says the stylist is still referring to Usher as "my husband" and isn't about to call it quits. "She's been in his life for so long. She's very loyal to him," says the source who knows her. "Tameka is the type of woman to stick it out."

Usher is going to be a father for the second time, PEOPLE has learned.
The R&B star and his wife Tameka Foster are expecting their second child together, a source close to the singer confirms.
The couple welcomed their first child, Usher Raymond V, in November 2007. Since then, Usher, 29, has spoken publicly about how much he loves being a dad. "I'm so proud to be a father by the time I'm 30," he told PEOPLE last month. "I'd hate to be 80 years old and not be able to run with my kids. I need to still be able to do flips when they're in high school!
Usher also told Essence in a July interview that his son, nicknamed Cinco, is an "extension of his union" with Foster, whom he married in August 2007.

Usher: 'The Challenge Is Having It All'
Originally posted 05/29/2008 01:50PM
Usher has been no stranger to the rumor mill in the last several years, and the singer is finally opening up about his controversial marriage, fatherhood and his decision to let his mother go as his manager days before Mother's Day 2007 in the July issue of Vibe.
"My mother is an aggressive person. She makes hard decisions, and she caused me to make a hard decision as well," the Grammy winner tells the magazine in its July cover story.
But Usher, 29, refuses to characterize the split with Jonnetta Patton after 15 years of managing him as a firing. Instead, he says he paid her "the ultimate compliment – to retire her to be a full-time grandmother. My mother and I decided to change her situation. There was a conversation. I didn't write her a letter or pink slip her."

"Well, if you hear that [song], you'll understand what [Jay-Z] meant when he says, 'Seeds becomes plants/ Boys become men/ You've got to grow up, not down.' "
