Taye Diggs Digs Being Dad to Baby Son

Amid the chaos and anxiety that comes with being a newly minted father, Taye Diggs has emerged with that uniquely parental emotion: pure, unadulterated awe.

"It's been amazing just to come home to that little dude," the Private Practice star, 38, tells PEOPLE about the birth of his son, Walker, earlier this month. "Every time I leave the house, it just makes me want to come back even more. It's just a great prize waiting for me."

And that great prize seems to be the gift that keeps on giving for the first-time dad.

Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel Welcome a Son

It's a boy for Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel. The couple welcomed a son, Walker Diggs, on Wednesday, the couple's reps confirm to PEOPLE.

"Mother, father and son are all doing well," the reps said in a statement.

The Broadway belters announced the pregnancy in March, later sharing that the baby was a boy.

Although they had a few names in mind, Diggs said they were waiting to make a final decision.

Talk about some powerhouse pipes.

Broadway belters Taye Diggs, 38, and Idina Menzel, 37, are expecting their first baby, his rep confirms to PEOPLE.

The longtime couple – who met on the 1996 Broadway production of Rent and married in January 2003 – will welcome their new arrival later this year.

Diggs costars on the ABC drama Private Practice and Menzel won a Tony Award for her turn in the 2003 Broadway production of the musical Wicked.

While Walsh was happy to hang out with Taye Diggs, soon her former Grey's Anatomy costar Sara Ramirez crashed the party with Justin Chambers's wife Keisha and another girlfriend, and the ladies sat down together to catch up.
