Country will get a little bit rock and roll with the addition of Daughtry to the roster of performers for the 43rd annual Country Music Association Awards, the CMA tells PEOPLE.

The show – to air on ABC Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 8 p.m. ET – will feature a duet between the five-man band (fronted by 2006 American Idol finalist Chris Daughtry) and Vince Gill on "Tennessee Line," a track off Daughtry's most recent album that featured Gill on harmony vocals.

The CMA also announced that Tim McGraw will be returning to perform for the first time in four years.

Tim McGraw is one ticked-off dad.

The country star took Kanye West to task after the rapper's now infamous diss of country sweetie Taylor Swift on Sunday's VMA Awards, telling CMT Insider the incident upset his daughters Gracie, 12, Maggie, 11, and Audrey, 7.

"He shows himself to be an idiot every time he does stuff like that," said the country star, who also was the subject of Swift's first hit single called "Tim McGraw." "[My girls] were upset. But what he did do is provide a great example of how not to be, and my girls learned a big lesson."

Inside the All-Star MusiCares Tribute to Neil Diamond

The night was a tribute to Neil Diamond, but it was Jennifer Hudson's moving take on his 1969 hit "Holly Holy" that brought down the house.

Wearing a gold jacket and black satin pantsuit, Hudson – backed by three singers – was serious and soulful in her powerful performance, which drew cheers from the audience three times during the song, especially when she hit high notes with a lot of vibrato.

The Los Angeles Convention Center audience of more than 1,500 immediately rose to its feet in a standing ovation as she mouthed the words "thank you" and took a small bow. As she looked up and saw the entire room standing and clapping, a look of genuine surprise came over her face, and her mouth fell open. She again mouthed the words "thank you," and waved to the crowd in appreciation.

Tim McGraw Not Ready for His Daughters to Date

Tim McGraw is already a protective dad – but he says when it comes time for his three daughters to start dating, the boys will have to get past him first.

"I think I am in denial," he tells Family Ciricle magazine about the idea that daughters Gracie, 12, Maggie, 10 and Audrey, 7, will ever date.

As for how he'll deal with potential suitors, he has some tricks up his sleeve. "I've jokingly told my friends who have sons the same age as Gracie that I'm going to hit the nicest boy of the bunch right off the bat," he tells the magazine that will be on newsstands Monday. "So when he goes to school with a black eye, all of the other boys will see that I've punched the nicest one and they'll be scared to death of me."

He'd be many a Democrat's dream candidate, but Tim McGraw says talk of his running for governor of Tennessee in 2010 is, for now, pure fantasy.

"There's no truth to this," McGraw's rep tells PEOPLE of the rumors – sparked by an item in The New Republic – that McGraw was considering a run for the gubernatorial seat. "It's something he is interested in, but not for 2010. Later in life."

In an interview with PEOPLE earlier this year, McGraw, a Democrat who supported Barack Obama in the presidential race, admitted that politics was in his blood and could be in his future.

For Tim McGraw, this year's World Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Tampa Bay Rays holds some serious significance.

Twenty-eight years ago, the country star's dad – Phillies relief pitcher Tug McGraw – sealed Philadelphia's one and only World Series victory by notching the game's final strikeout.

So Saturday night, McGraw will honor his dad, who passed away of cancer in 2004, by walking the ball to the pitcher's mound before the start of game three in Philadelphia.
