Former NASCAR Driver Dick Trickle Dies of Apparent Suicide

Dick Trickle, whose larger-than-life personality and penchant for fun won him legions of fans despite a lack of success beyond the nation's small tracks, died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said. He was 71.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said authorities received a call believed to be from Trickle, who said "there would be a dead body and it would be his." Authorities tried to call the number back, but no one answered.
Trickle's body was found near his pickup truck at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Boger City, N.C., about 40 miles northwest of Charlotte. Sheriff's Lieutenant Tim Johnson said foul play was not suspected.

Is there a star who loves his fans more than Tom Cruise?
The 50-year-old actor spent a whopping three-plus hours fist-bumping, snapping pictures and high-fiving the massive crowd that assembled on Hollywood Boulevard Wednesday night for the L.A. premiere of his new sci-fi film, Oblivion.
But while he happily chatted with fans, the megastar – who, contrary to reports, did not talk about his 2012 divorce from Katie Holmes in a German magazine this week – smoothly deflected a question about whether he is open to finding love again.
"Right now, all I'm thinking about is Oblivion!" he told PEOPLE.

It was another mother-daughter bonding day for Katie Holmes and daughter, Suri Cruise.
The actress, 34, couldn't hide her smile on Sunday at Disney World's Magic Kingdom Park in Orlando, Fla., where she took her little one, 6½, on a carousel ride.
Clad in a dress and sweater, with a green polka-dot backpack, Holmes snapped photos of Cruise on her cell phone while sitting on a carousel horse.

Tom Cruise spent four to five days of quality time with daughter Suri last week, as he flew her over in his private jet from New York to London and then brought her up to the swanky Grove Hotel in Hertfordshire.
A source told PEOPLE that Suri was with her father for several days, "but they kept such a low profile that nobody really knew she was there."

Suri Cruise celebrated her first holiday season since her parents' divorce, first with mom, then with dad.
"Suri spent Christmas day with her mother and her family in Ohio," says a source close to Katie Holmes. "It was a wonderful day."
The tot is now with her father, Tom Cruise, and his two older kids, another source tells PEOPLE.
Cruise, 50, mentioned earlier this month that he was looking forward to having a family holiday.

Does Tom Cruise have a new girlfriend?
The New York Post reports that last week the Jack Reacher star, 50, spent a night out at New York hot spot Le Baron and hit the dance floor with Cynthia Jorge, a 26-year-old manager of Beauty & Essex.
"Cynthia told me they went out for drinks and it was nothing but a casual night out. She said he's a nice guy," a source tells PEOPLE.
Sources close to Jorge also tell the Post that she was simply "showing Tom some of the city's hotspots" and that the actor and Jorge are "just friends."
A source close to Cruise notes that the actor remains single following his divorce from Katie Holmes, but says he isn't dating anyone new.

While Katie Holmes's ex, Tom Cruise, was in England promoting his new movie and prepping for Christmas with his children, she was letting her hair down at a performing arts training program benefit in New York City.
Clad in a long, purple dress by Vivienne Westwood and wearing her wavy hair down, Holmes, 33, looked cozy and comfortable shooting the breeze for several hours at Broadway Dreams Foundation annual Champagne & Caroling Gala on Monday.
Spending much of her time at the winter-themed party hanging out with her lawyer, Jonathan Wolfe, and the director of her current Broadway play (from which she had the night off), Dead Accounts, Jack O'Brien, Holmes sipped champagne but abstained from the short-rib tartlet, crab cake and shrimp cocktail appetizers.
