Two years after a deadly crash that left Saturday Night Live veteran Tracy Morgan in critical condition, the comedian credits his fellow cast members for inspiring him to return to comedy.
"On Oct. 17, when I went home, I was in a pitch meeting and this young cast – all of them, everybody, the whole cast – I know they was doing their hardest pitches, their best pitches," the 47-year-old comedian said of his return to the Saturday Night Live set after creator Lorne Michaels invited him "home."
"They inspired me so much," he continued. "After I left the pitch meeting, I went to the cellar, I grabbed the mic for the first time – for the very first time – it was like a new life," Morgan told Howard Stern of getting back on the stage again. "I did five minutes."

After the comedian received a 2016 Emmy Award nomination for an outstanding guest actor in a comedy series for the Saturday Night Live episode he hosted last October, Morgan was quick to share his thoughts.
"I am just so happy and want to share this with so many people and am nominated with some extraordinary company," Morgan, 47, said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. "I love you guys. I just want to thank everyone who helped me and my family after that horrific night and the months after – Lorne [Michaels] and everyone at SNL for having me come home, the doctors at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital who saved my life, the staff at JFK Medical Center who got me back on my feet, the first responders who helped me and my friends that fateful night, my AMAZING wife and kids, Lira, who helped my wife, and my father, who is looking down on me right now."
He added, "I feel like Cuba [Gooding Jr.] at the end of Jerry Maguire! But most importantly … this is for you Jimmy Mac. I love you. Thank you to everyone who made this possible."

Tracy Morgan has had an incredibly transformative last few years.
While still recovering from a horrific car accident that claimed a friend's life (and nearly his own), he's returned to the spotlight and regained his ability to walk – including down the aisle with love Megan Wollover, who is mother to his 2½-year-old daughter Maven.
With all this behind him – and so much more ahead – Morgan, 47, is sitting down with Oprah Winfrey on the April 3 episode of OWN's Super Soul Sunday for an intimate conversation about his recovery, his spirituality and his path forward.
