ABC Breaking News | Latest News Videos Tracy Morgan said his family is the reason he survived a deadly bus crash in 2014.

As part of the The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2015 special, the former 30 Rock star spoke candidly with Barbara Walters about the accident that killed his friend and left him in critical condition.

"I survived that crash for a reason," Morgan told Walters, adding that his room in heaven "wasn't ready."

It's only natural that Tracy Morgan has found a way to look back on his amazing recovery with plenty of laughter.

Eighteen months after being critically injured in a fatal car wreck, Page Six reports that Morgan grabbed the mic at the New York Comedy Club on Saturday night and did a " 'hilarious and inspiring' 20-minute set" about his path to wellness.

The set came shortly before Morgan's good friend Tina Fey admitted of the comedian's rebound: "I honestly can't believe that he made it."

"It really was!" comedian Kathy Griffin told PEOPLE on the red carpet Oct. 18 at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., before the taping of the 18th Annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, this year honoring Eddie Murphy, 54. "We were watching Tracy host SNL and [Dave] Chappelle was in there, and Arsenio [Hall] was there, and it just was so much fun. I was in comedy heaven."

Tracy Morgan knows the power of laughter, and it's something he credits his "comedic hero" Eddie Murphy with bringing back into his life.

"When I first came out of my coma, I spoke to Eddie on the phone, and he was the first one to make me laugh – and that's why I love you," Morgan said in a touching moment during Sunday's taping of the 18th Annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor ceremony honoring Murphy.

"He's the reason why I'm in comedy, he's the reason why I have a job, he's the reason why I have a career," said Morgan, who walked on stage at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., to a standing ovation led by his friend and inspiration.
