Tyler Perry Jumps to Bobbi Kristina Brown's Defense

Originally posted 05/30/2012 04:45PM

Bobbi Kristina Brown is grieving the loss of her mother Whitney Houston – but the young aspiring actress didn't walk out on Tyler Perry's For Better or Worse and, in fact, did "great" work, according to the director.

On Wednesday a report surfaced that Bobbi Kristina quit the TBS comedy and walked out of the show because she is dealing with the death of her mom.

But Perry posted an adamant defense of Houston's daughter on his website saying, "Yes she was grieving, but grief aside, she managed to finish her obligation and did a great job at the same time."

Bobbi Kristina Brown is already following in her famous parents' footsteps.

The daughter of the late Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown has been cast in a recurring role in Tyler Perry's show For Better or Worse, a source confirms to PEOPLE.

No details of the role are available, but the show shoots in Atlanta, where all of Perry's shows are produced and where Bobbi Kristina lives.

Bobbi Kristina, 19, has said she wants to be an entertainer. "I have to carry on the legacy," she told Oprah Winfrey earlier this month. "We're going to do the singing thing. Some acting, some dancing."

Whitney Houston's funeral was as emotional as it appeared to those watching online, one mourner who attended tells PEOPLE.

"It was really beautiful … a lot of people were crying," says Denise Council, who attended the ceremony at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, N.J.

Council – who met Whitney years ago and whose husband went to school with the late singer – kept an eye on Houston's daughter during the ceremony.

"Bobbi Kristina broke down, but she was good," says Council. "She was up in the first row ... and [did] pretty good, all considering. [Whitney's mother] Cissy was wonderful."

Oprah Winfrey is not the only big star staying up late after the Oscars next Sunday. PEOPLE has learned that there are even more celebrities joining Jimmy Kimmel's seventh post-Oscar special!

Jessica Biel, new dad (again) Jason Bateman, JJ Abrams, Steven Tyler, Tyler Perry, Edward Norton, Colin Farrell and Ryan Philippe are on board for the show's big bit "Movie the Movie."

Given the show's history, it's promising – even if Samuel L. Jackson has choice words for those potentially involved (ABC previously announced Meryl Streep, George Clooney and Tom Hanks.) Check out a very bleeped teaser here: Moviethemovie.com.

It should come as no surprise that the skit will push the envelope. Kimmel's annual special has produced LOL-worthy comedy pieces in the past including "F*@#ing Ben Affleck," "Handsome Men's Club," "Hottie Body Hump Club" and "Tom Hanks's Toddlers in Tiaras".

Janet Jackson says film director Tyler Perry was a major source of support when her brother Michael died unexpectedly last June – repeatedly checking on her and even halting work on the movie they were making together.

"He actually stopped production and was there for me," Jackson, 43, told PEOPLE on Monday at the New York premiere of Perry's new film, Why Did I Get Married Too? "[He was] constantly calling me, making sure I was OK, making sure that there wasn't anything that I needed or my family needed."
