The Royal Wedding: What Already Makes April 29 Special
Originally posted 11/25/2010 05:00PM
On April 29, 2011, all eyes will be on Prince William as he weds his future princess Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey. This royal wedding, however, is not the first big event to take place on this late April day.
Here's a look back on some other milestones:
April 29, 1429, Joan of Arc left her mark on history by leading troops in Orleans, France to victory over the English.
April 29, 1967, Aretha Franklin debuted her signature song "Respect," which later earned her two Grammy awards – Best Rhythm And Blues Recording and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
April 29, 1967, Muhammad Ali stripped of his boxing crown after refusing to join the Army citing religious reasons.

Uma Thurman, Other Stars Targeted in $30-Million Ponzi Scam
Originally posted 05/28/2010 10:30AM
Just because you're a celebrity doesn't mean you're immune from being ripped off. Witness the jaw-dropping tale of a "Scammer to the Stars" who allegedly operated a Ponzi scheme that bilked $30 million from the likes of Uma Thurman, Wesley Snipes, Sylvester Stallone, Al Pacino, playwright Neil Simon, directors Mike Nichols, Martin Scorsese and Nora Ephron, illusionist David Blaine, and celeb photographer Annie Leibovitz.
And though some of the luckier stars smelled a rat and got their money out in time, on Thursday federal prosecutors arrested so-called financial adviser Kenneth Starr, 66, in his $7.5-million Manhattan condo – where he was hiding in the closet, until federal agents spotted his shoes underneath the door, according to The New York Times.
Initially, Starr's wife, Diane Passage, a former dancer at the Scores strip club, told the agents that Starr was not home. But then, reports the New York Post, quoting the agents, she pointed upstairs and whispered, "He's upstairs."

Uma Thurman to Costar with Robert Pattinson in Steamy New Film
Originally posted 01/11/2010 03:30PM
Uma Thurman is set to help Robert Pattinson cut his teeth as a bad-boy journalist in Bel Ami, which begins filming next month.
"They are planning on doing the film Bel Ami in London," Thurman's rep tells PEOPLE, confirming the actress' involvement. Of a reported scripted kiss between the stars, he says, "The plot of the movie is not being released just yet."
Pattinson – cast in May in the story based on the 19th-century novel by Guy De Maupassant – will also be joined onscreen by Christina Ricci, reportedly as a promiscuous young housewife, and Kristin Scott Thomas.
The actor, 23, who plays a Parisian soldier-turned-journalist, has said that the lead female role in the movie "needs to be literally inspirational." One can only guess that Thurman, 39, fills the bill – and then some.

Uma Thurman Fears She'll 'Choke My Career to Death'
Originally posted 09/16/2009 01:00PM
She became a Hollywood star as a teen, but Uma Thurman – who turns 40 next year – says getting through the last decade was a big challenge.
"I can't say my 30s were the easiest time. And I had thought my 20s were hard!" she tells W Magazine for its October issue.
For those who think she had it all – the looks, the career (Oscar and Golden Globe nominations), and the family (kids Maya, 11, and Levon, 7) – she has a warning: "You know, that's the worst mistake a woman can make, to think, 'Oh, I'm 32 and I've had two kids and I've worked since I was 16 and now it's going to get easier.' Because as soon as you think that, you're doomed! You're absolutely doomed!"

"Of course, I'm proud of her," the financier, 46, said Monday night after arriving at Rose Hall in Jazz at Lincoln Center on the arm of his fiancée for the Cookie Magazine Smart Cookie Awards in New York. Thurman was honored for her work with Room to Grow, a non-profit organization that helps children born into poverty during the first three critical years of their lives.
Busson, who kept his arm around Thurman on their way into dinner and for much of the evening, told PEOPLE he was especially proud of Thurman's charity work. "She's been involved since the beginning [of Room to Grow, in 1998]. She goes and sees the sites and works on the projects. She's been incredibly dedicated."
