Valerie Bertinelli didn't skimp on trips to the gym when she was trying to lose weight. And now that she's 40 lbs. lighter, not much has changed.
"I mix treadmill running with exercises like push-ups, walking lunges, crunches," she tells Prevention magazine in its September issue of her exercise routine.
The Jenny Craig spokeswoman, 51, who displayed her bikini bod on the cover of PEOPLE in March 2009, gets a little help when she hits the gym – from personal trainer, Christopher Ross Lane.

Not according to Valerie Bertinelli, who says she was taken aback when Tom Vitale presented her with some expensive bling when he popped the question last year.
"It was from Tiffany's," the Hot in Cleveland actress says in an interview airing Wednesday on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "I said, 'Why did you spend so much money? Why did you go to Tiffany's? You should've gone someplace else with cheaper jewelry.' "
She adds with a laugh: "I don't know why he married me."

Valerie Bertinelli doesn't feel the need to get all dressed up to impress her new hubby Tom Vitale. In fact, the actress prefers to do the opposite.
"Tom and I like being able to walk around naked," the Hot in Cleveland star, 50, says in the March issue of Good Housekeeping.
But the couple's uninhibited pastime isn't always possible. "You can't [be naked] when the kids are in the house," Bertinelli says of Vitale's four children from a previous marriage and Bertinelli's son Wolfie, with ex-husband Eddie Van Halen.

Valerie Bertinelli says one nice thing about finally getting married to longtime boyfriend Tom Vitale is simply that she can call him her husband.
"I think I got tired of calling him 'my spousal equivalent,' " the Hot in Cleveland actress, 50, said Wednesday on The View. "It's nice to call him my husband. It feels appropriate."

Forget Cleveland. Things got hot in Malibu Saturday night when Valerie Bertinelli married her boyfriend of seven years, financial planner Tom Vitale, PEOPLE has learned.
"We're so happy!" the Hot in Cleveland star tells PEOPLE exclusively of the intimate wedding held at the couple's Malibu home.
Bertinelli, 50, and Vitale, 49, exchanged vows in front of about 100 guests, including Bertinelli's son Wolfie, 19, from her marriage to rocker Eddie Van Halen, who also attended.

Valerie Bertinelli isn't in any rush to get married.
The actress, who became engaged to businessman Tom Vitale last March, isn't rushing down the aisle because she's too busy enjoying her pre-honeymoons.
"One of these days we're going to get married, but we just had an amazing three weeks in Italy, and so now we're planning our second honeymoon for us to actually get married and go again," Bertinelli, 50, told PEOPLE at Thursday's 19th Annual BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards. "We're doing all the honeymoons first."

As a second time bride-to-be, Valerie Bertinelli admits she doesn't have the giddy, enthusiasm that many first-time brides have.
"For me, it feels silly. I'm 50. It's not about the wedding. I just want to have a marriage," says Bertinelli, who was engaged to her longtime boyfriend, businessman Tom Vitale, last March. "We're going to get married in Italy, just the two of us and a witness."
Speaking to PEOPLE at the Jenny Craig National Conference in San Diego, Calif., on Thursday, the actress also jokes that she's not going to look like a model from the pages of Modern Bride: "I'll be wearing black!"
