From reality-show novelty songs to stocking-stuffer EPs, Christmas isn't Christmas until two people who have no business being in the same room have crowded in front of the mic to sing a holiday classic. Why do they do this? You should just as soon ask Black Friday shoppers why they camp out for hours in front of big-box stores. Holiday magic is a compelling thing.

In June of 1980, John Lennon took a summer vacation. He sailed from Newport, R.I., aboard a 43-foot sloop with a crew of four to Bermuda, where he rented a house and flew his son Sean, then 4, down to join him.

Ordinarily, that wouldn't be such a loaded statement, but given what happened December 8, 1980, Lennon's trip to Bermuda has gained a kind of misty-eyed significance.

Rufus Wainwright Weds Jorn Weisbrodt

"One day you will come to Montauk ... hope you won't turn around and go," Rufus Wainwright sings on the piano-driven ballad "Montauk" (from his latest album, Out of the Game) about his favorite seaside town.

On Thursday, friends and family flocked to the rustic beach community at the end of Long Island to see the singer marry his longtime partner Jorn Weisbrodt. And no one left early!

Wainwright, 39, and Weisbrodt, the German-born artistic director of the Luminato Festival, wore custom Viktor & Rolf Monsieur and were married by a longtime friend, the artist Justin Vivian Bond.
