Like designer duds and gorgeous gowns, the Vanity Fair party is an Oscar-night staple. After a night of top honors, Hollywood's biggest stars, like Nicole Kidman and Cameron Diaz, step out onto the terrace for one last hurrah of the night. Right around the corner: the Hollywood and Highland Center plays host to the equally starry Oscars Governors Ball, the official after-party of the Academy Awards.

Jennifer Aniston hit up one of her favorite haunts, the Sunset Tower Hotel's Tower Bar for a mostly ladies' night. The actress sat down for dinner and drinks with four girlfriends and one male pal. "She looked great, really happy and mellow," an onlooker tells us. "They all spent the night laughing, sipping wine and just having a really chill evening."
Kate Walsh dined out at L.A.'s exclusive Sunset Tower Hotel in a so-not-Hollywood way: totally makeup free! The Private Practice star, who was joined by friends, was also dressed down in slacks and a blazer at the popular spot for star-watching. Walsh sat at the head of the table and seemed very engaged in what seemed like a business discussion, a source says.
Scarlett, meet the Governator! While out for dinner with a male pal at L.A.'s Sunset Tower Hotel's Tower Bar, Johansson got a surprise introduction from fellow diner Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who walked across the dining room and left his table of three behind to greet the starlet. Says an onlooker: "You could tell he was a fan."
Chris Pine, showing off his scruff during a business dinner with five guys – "total industry types," an onlooker says – at the Sunset Tower Hotel in L.A. After the meeting, the Star Trek star welcomed a distraction, turning his attention to a brunette diner as he walked out the door. The two chatted for bit in the doorway, then discreetly exchanged numbers before Pine left.
Jennifer Aniston, grabbing her regular table at L.A.'s Sunset Tower Hotel for dinner with Courteney Cox Arquette and a male friend. While Cox Arquette sipped a glass of red wine with her back to the rest of the room, her Friend spent much of her meal leaning over her plate, occasionally munching on some fries as the trio chatted.
Much more low-key, Johnny Depp, ate a quiet poolside lunch at Los Angeles's Sunset Tower Hotel. Sharing his meal in cabana with an older gentleman, the actor turned more private as more diners arrived. "He just stood up and casually dropped down the flap of the cabana," an onlooker tells us. Among those deprived any further glimpses of the actor, a curious Nicole Richie, who was dining at a nearby table with a female friend.
Kate Hudson collected the favorite leading lady trophy at the People's Choice Awards – and then it was time for a celebratory meal. The actress headed to West Hollywood's Sunset Tower Hotel for dinner with stylist Rachel Zoe and three male friends. The group ate in the sophisticated dining room, where they enjoyed their meal with a soundtrack of live piano and cello. And it was a starry night at the restaurant: Hudson stood up to give Sean Penn a hug as he headed to the patio, while Big Love's Chloe Sevigny dined nearby with a girlfriend.
Jennifer Aniston, sharing a "mellow dinner with the girls" at her home away from home, and favorite West Hollywood restaurant, the Tower Bar inside the Sunset Tower Hotel. The Marley & Me star may not have been with beau John Mayer, but her night did turn into a giggle-fest because of one man: Bill Murray. The comedian "kept coming over and sitting with her," an observer tells us. "They were both laughing and playing off each other a lot."
