Gina Glocksen: I Didn't Think I Was Going Home
![]() |
Are you second-guessing your decision to mellow out as much as you did by singing "Smile" on Tuesday's show?
I am not regretting anything. I am happy I had to chance to sing that song because it showed America that I also have a voice and not just a rocker image.
What was it like to sing it again after you were eliminated?
I never thought I would be singing that song on the show again. But as I was singing it kind of clicked that a couple of lines that I was singing were about myself. I kind of changed some of the words. I know that there is always tomorrow. It will be a really special song for me from for the rest of my life.
What was going through your mind on Wednesday's show?
I was really disappointed because at no point in time on Tuesday night or preparing for Wednesday night did I think I would be going home this week. I thought I had a really good performance Tuesday and I had a really good song. I was really proud of the song that I chose and the way I chose to present it. I didn't have a chance to be in the bottom three ever and the one time when I was I was going home.
How did the emotion of the crowd booing when you were eliminated make you feel?
It made me feel so blessed and very much loved. You never know how many people love you in the audience. To have that crowd in an uproar booing was bittersweet because I am great friends with Haley and I am glad to see her still there but I also wish that I was still there.
What did the judges say to you after the show?
Randy said, "If you sang it like that last night you would be through." Paula said, "I am a fan, you are a star, you are going to go far," and Simon said, "Gina, I really like you, you are a good person and I really like you." And he said he is glad I went back to my rocker image.
Do you feel Simon was tough on you and wanted to see you fail?
No. I considered Simon as a parent. Parents will do the tough love kind of thing. They tell you what you don't want to hear so you do the opposite. I think that he will say that I had a bad performance just to make me stronger. He did like me and saw something special in me and I think he just wanted to push me to that next level.
Who was the best guest mentor?
Diana Ross. It wasn't even anything vocally. It was her telling me in this industry you are going to have so many people talking to you, telling you what to wear, what songs choices to do, how to present yourself. She told me that is why I should choose one person, trust them and give them everything you have and they won't steer you wrong,
Where does Mr. Pickle stand in all of this?
I am a little upset with him but he got me this far.
