Sanjaya Recruits Celeb 'Fanjayas'

In his first post-Idol appearance, Top 7 castoff Sanjaya Malakar encountered two new fans on Thursday night's Tonight Show: fellow crooner Donny Osmond and comedian Jack Black.

Introducing Sanjaya, host Jay Leno also brought out Osmond to musically underscore Sanjaya's responses to Leno's questions – a parody of the popular commercials by car insurance company Geico.

Asked what was it about him that had so captured the public's imagination, Sanjaya shrugged and replied, "I don't know. Maybe because I'm young. I take risks," while Osmond broke into the song "Hair."

Leno then wanted to know why young Ashley Ferl in the Idol audience burst into tears at the very sight of Sanjaya. "I'm happy that [young fans] liked my singing," he replied – as Osmond burst into "Puppy Love."

And what were Sanjaya's final words to Idol host Ryan Seacrest? "I told him I really appreciate his support," said the Seattle-area native. "Go Away, Little Girl," warbled Osmond.

Meanwhile, funnyman Black later told the 17-year-old, "You had a great ride, Sanjaya. I was rooting for you. I didn't vote. But if I had voted, I absolutely would have voted for you."
