"I'm doing three more and that's it," Cowell says. "That will be ten seasons at the end of that."
Actually, that will be nine seasons but we'll forgive him for misspeaking.
Cowell made the comments on Access Hollywood in an interview with Tony Potts to discuss the finale of season six and the future of the show.
"Ten seasons is a fair deal for me and it's a fair deal for them and then it's time to bring new people in," Cowell says. "I think people are going to get tired of me if they're not already. Certainly after 10 seasons they will. And I've had a great time and I'm very thankful but that will be it."
So what does Cowell plan to do when he's done with Idol? "Produce," he says.
In fact, Cowell will be wearing his producer's cap when season two of American Inventor revs up on ABC on June 6. Cowell is the show's executive producer (and co-founder) – and he has implemented a fleet of changes, including tweaks to the celebrity panel. How? Cowell enlisted George Foreman to judge who, with his friendly demeanor, will fill the needed "Paula" role.
Cowell is also listed as a producer of America's Got Talent and has worked with musical groups such as Il Divo and the Teletubbies.
